Speaking of the eagles, @Crom do you remember passing a watch tower out there in the wind farm? I saw it on my last trip, which basically did the same route that you took except for the end. There's a person staffed there full-time in that watch tower specifically to watch for eagles entering the field. If they see one they start shutting the whole operation down. Pretty crazy!

Then there's the issue with big solar fields where the birds see the reflection and think it's a body of water...big surprise when water birds land in the desert on migration looking for water and don't find any.

Solar on buildings in existing urban areas would make soooooooo much more sense...

Thanks. I got take my daughter the year before, and there will be a few more of those dances, so all was not lost. Thank you. That pic of your son + his daughter sounds awesome! Good memories for sure. Wow, just read an article on that wind farm. And too bad about the Eagles. :( I can't imagine 1000 red flashing lights at night! Holy crap! The locals probably don't even have a clue what they're in for.

Here is a couple pics of them last summer. I was explaining how the High Sierra lakes form from snow melt and how one lake feeds into another and forms a series. I thought how better to show them than to just make a model in the front yard. So I did. Water hose simulated snow melt, and it flowed into one lake before overflowing down to three others in succession.

For months after this, I would get requests to "Play in the mud" As long as it was a weekend! :)

    Mud mess kids!

Also, I've been meaning to tell you. I reversed the color coded cargo fittings sometime last year.

Interesting did not know about the solar / bird thinking water phenomenon.

I did not see the watch tower. The wind farm is pretty vast, I didn't realize until looking at a map I found in Boccard's report, that it stretched to the south of I-8.

It seems to defy logic, that a single human could monitor for birds considering it spans 6+ miles. Maybe there is more than one watch tower? :notsure:

I'm not surprised, there were a few roads into that area so maybe we just got the one closest to the tower. And holy crap I didn't realize how far south it extended! On my way back from my Baja trip we passed through there at night and it was my first time seeing the massive field of synchronized blinking red lights. Talk about creepy and slightly terrifying!

I'm not sure about two watch towers. Eagles are pretty easy to spot, especially in an area that's as flat as this, so they could just have one. Though with the expanse I wouldn't be surprised if there were two.

Have you ever explored the Yuha desert? Or Crucifixion thorn area?

    I love those places.

Also for 20 years I've wanted to explore back in Davies Valley. It's dicey though, backpack or day hike only. Surrounded on three sides by rugged terrain, and the border.

There is also a nearby canyon that is rumored to have native American wall painting of a possible Spanish ship that sailed up the Gulf of California a long time ago. Would love to find it!

A buddy has those in his AC. They're not entirely practical in DC applications because the extremely limited leg room all but disappears in our trucks if you plan on having a human in the back seat. The panels fit really well and hold all your gear, but you have to also factor in that any pouches you add will most likely be 5-7 inches thick once loaded up and remove that much from the rear passenger's useable legroom (which is usually only 5-7 inches to begin with, haha). Still cool though. I wanted some until I saw how they fit. Got the back wall molle panel instead.

@Crom Another thing about the red left port, green right starboard is the number of letters in each of the words. Good for when you can't remember 'Is green right or left?' Truck looks good with colors in the proper sides.

    It's easy -

    Port - 1) left - both 4 letter words
    2) port is also a red wine

Starboard - neither of the above. ;)

I came to the same conclusion with these. But I installed Carhartt seat covers, which have a wide sleeve pocket on the back of both front seats, which is nice.

I have other plans for ripping out the plastic rear bins and replacing them with something I deem better in concepts than the molle business.:spy:
But this seems increasingly far away on my to-do list :(
