Hi my tacoma 2.7 4x4 has a rebuilt tranny and motor. I get good speed from 1-3 gear but once i hit 4 i loose power. I gain speed but more on the slower side. Ill go to like 75 mph on 4th gear and shift to 5 and i start loosing speed. In matter of seconds i drop to 70 and ill have me pedal to the floor and dont gain speed. Is this normal or can some one help me. Please

Doesn't sound normal. I have no problem going from 55 to 75 in 5th and I'm not putting it to the floor.

Check the plugs, air filter, replace fuel filter maybe. Tune up stuff.

Okay i will check the fuel filter. I checked the plugs and they were gappes at .030 ans .035. And they are supposed to be at .028. So ill fixed that and replaced the filter

There's your problem. It's harder for your engine to turn the taller tires. Especially if you have the stock gears. My 97 4x4 manual came with the 3.58 differential gears. I think toyota figured those would be good for gas mileage on the highway with stock size tires. But once you go to bigger tires it's just too much for that little motor. When I put my tires on I basically could only use 4th gear for when I got up to highway speed to cruise and could never use 5th.

Really? I think i checked the gearing on mine on the decal on the driver door and it said my gearing was 4.10. Not 100% positive. Whats stock size for these?

Usually 225/75/15 is stock on the older ones. Some came with 31's or something equivalent. Check the door plaque and google "eriks differential toyota" and you can find a fairly informative page with most of the gear codes. I have 32's and the 4.56 gears now. They're a little overkill on the freeway (~3000 RPMS at 65 mph) but they are sure nice off road and for hauling stuff around town. I really mostly use it for dump runs and hauling firewood. Single cabs don't fit the whole family too well.

Completely incorrect. That I'm fairly certain. I'd set the gap at 0.040". Check the FSM or a Haynes manual to be sure though.

Oversize tires will definitely do it that's for sure. I'm 3 inches taller over factory and about 2 inches wider. No problems in any gear but it's not a jack rabbit getting to speed.
