Hey Everyone, I have had My 2017 DC OR for 2 months 3,600 miles. It had been in the shop 2 times already for "brake" issues.

I was hearing a humming/whining doing speeds over 25 mph, and I was convinced it was my rear differential based on sound and research.

Took the truck to Dealership and they said they were positive that the factory had over-tightened the "rear" brakes.

1 week later the truck would not drive forward. I "thought" it was transmission. Towed it to Toyota and they said my EMERGENCY Brake locked up.

I'm not saying I'm calling bullshit, BUT, seems fishy.......

Just curious as to what you think their reason would be to lie?

There was a guy on here recently that had a rear brake locked up and he was right across the street from the dealer. If memory serves me they pulled the rear drums off and said everything looked OK and sent him on his way.

If it has been raining and you park your truck for a few days the rear drums will rust and stick but mine usually pop loose.

A few listed in the signature
If you leave it for a few days it can rust but should disengage pretty easily. I don't know if you have seen the layout of a drum brake but if you overtighten the lower portion (where there is a gear of sorts) it can cause rubbing or lock it up. Seems plausible.

I really have a hard time believing that the handbrakes are rusting to the point of being frozen after a few days, my car sits for the entire Winter in an unheated garage with the handbrake on and it has never once been rusted frozen.

My 2016 sat for 1 week with e brake on after driving in the rain and was rusted up but it pops loose with a little throttle this is pretty common for drum brakes my old ranger did it all the time also.

I'm a mailman, and our postal trucks rear drum brakes lockup overnight all the time after driving in the rain. Some trucks more than others. Drop it in reverse, give it a little gas and it pops... then i'm on my merry way.

Yeah this is pretty universal to drums. If yours didn't move with the e-brake off, you weren't using enough gas.
