The difference is today they use cheaper plastics, cheaper metals, cheaper paint, and less quality control.

    What's up dude!

Couldn't resist the TW madness?

Anyways to OP... I'd defiantly call Toyota. Don't foresee a way they can say you caused it if there are no repairs done or accidents on the truck. Have you always had Toyota service if? Owned since new?

Go to the dealer, every single Tacoma has noticeable color differences.

I've seen it too, they park them in a row and none of them match each other :cookiemonster:

If you can't see it, then it's not mis-matched.

But if you can't see it... how would you know? How does one prove it's not a match if you can't see the difference? o_O

That's like saying ghosts exist even though you can't see them, nor prove they are actually real.

o_O How is it mis-matched if it is the same shade, and un-noticed to the naked eye?

Make sure it's not an issue with the angle of incident at which the light is reflected back into your eyes. I know this sounds like smarty-smart-ha-ha stuff but look at the paint in full sunlight and look at every surface at different angles. If there is a difference it'll stay constant. If it seems different but then looks similar once you change your angle of viewing, then it may be some type of optical illusion.

Also use sunglasses to help. Sometimes polarized glasses can make a true difference more noticeable.

What I'm saying is that just because YOU or him, or your mom can't notice it, doesn't meant that it matches. because it doesn't, and that's a fact.
I can notice it on any car, anywhere, from 10 feet away.
It's part of my professional training, like what I do all day... for a job...deal with painting cars.. specifically toyotas
    Any other questions?

So what you're saying is... you're a professional color vision user...

Because I have to explain to customers nearly every day that their pH and Chlorine litmus papers (test strips) are as much a test of color vision as they are pH.

So serious question. What can of spray paint closest matches the Toyota Super White (code 040) on my truck? :D

Well you can go to an automotive paint supply store and get 040 mixed in an aresol can.
You can probably even order it online.

Serious question for you..do pool guys really bang cougar housewives like you see in movies?

Only seen it in the movies so far... but I'm not a pool guy technically. I do hot tubs & saunas.

Think my truck has gotten me more action than my job has... :D

Yeah, no accidents or anything like that. Same dealer for all service.

Yeah it looks much worse with sunglasses. I'll have to drop by the dealer and call Toyota. Hopefully I can get a better match, I just worry that they may blow me off.

When I brought it up to the dealer last time they told me to call Toyota and that they don't handle it. I will try again and actually get around to calling this time lol.

There's a chance that this type of white is hard to exactly match the paint on the metal part of the car...like someone mentioned. I'm not sure if the plastic parts are "painted" per se or if the pigment is added during the formation of the plastic part of the car. This would be good to know.

I do know that when you order touch up paint from Toyota, they require the VIN. This tells me there could be "batch" differences/variations.

Since sunglasses show the color mismatch as being obvious, then you know a color difference exists for real. It's a personal call if it drives you crazy or not. If it was a door mismatch, that would be weird.

Even if painted at the same time, plastic and metal parts will always have a slightly different shade.
