I guess they have to flip around somewhere to go the other way, cause the engines in the back?

Going forward with a car, not engine, in front. Maybe be its normal, but as many time as I see this same train, this is unusual.

I think there's usually an engine on both ends. At the speed they appeared to be going, even though being on tracks there isn't any steering involved, they need to see ahead for crossings and turns to slow accordingly.

Amtrak (at least this line) has been engine first, every time I see them.

I was moving at 55mph. I paced them at nearly 70MPH after they passed me. I'm not sure how a conductor at the rear/engine can see track problems from back there...

Yea, I didn't research just kind of assumed the dual engine on the Amtrak but I have seen a few others set up with the push/pull set up. There is no way the conductor is seeing anything, maybe they have someone in the forward car radioing back to the engine. Doesn't seem ideal at 70mph in a train that will take nearly 2 miles to stop.

This reminded me of a video I recorded while I was in Europe a few years ago.

Please excuse the sideways video (window reflected like crazy when widescreen???)

This is the ICE train from Cologne, Germany to Belgium.

In this stretch the train is averaging 315-320kph (~198mph).

At around :42 the trees clear up a bit and you can see the speed differential between the train and traffic that always runs at around 80mph there.

Wowz. What goofball put a goat mount in a washer and posed that mannequin? That's a circus side show if I've ever seen one.
