Morimoto Elite HID System and LED Fogs for your '16+ Tacoma

If you trimmed the gaskets then I think you should put the original gaskets back on - original meaning the ones that came on the HID bulbs if you swapped to the thicker gasket. You have to push in and twist with effort. The connectors should be vertical when it is seated all the way. Also, make sure that you lined up the tabs properly.

 

I have a set of opt7 led lights in already and they seat perfectly. When I take one of those bulbs out and compare it to the morimoto bulb the distance between the tabs and the rubber gasket is very noticeably different. The opt7 has a larger gap which allows the bulb to seat and turn as necessary where the morimoto bulb has very little gap. On the backside of the headlight there is a small circle that will only allow so much room for the gasket to expand. No matter how hard you press on this it is not allowing the morimoto bulb to turn even the slightest. After I trimmed some of the gasket it still takes some force but I am able to successfully install and rotate the bulb so it sits properly. I would have broken the tabs on the back of the bulb if I would have kept trying to force it that is how tight that gasket was.

 

It sounds like you don't have the gasket in the right spot on the HID bulb. It sits down low, close the base and in a groove.

 

Yep precisely where they are seated. To get them off took some effort and had to pull the gasket away from the bulb base in order to remove them. It's all in the right spot the gasket height was just too tall. I did have a spare set of gaskets but they were the same height. With the spares this is why I decided to trim. Now that get are trimmed they got exactly. Maybe I was provided the wrong gaskets I am unsure but there was no possible way that thick gasket was gonna work no matter how much force was applied.

 

if i buy another set of bulb from diode dynamics would it work witht the morimoto ballasts? which bulbs is it h11 or h11b

I've had OPT7 LEDs, Morimoto 2stroke LEDs, and will likely switch to the Morimoto HID system now.

OPT7's were taken out because it's like 6000k or something. A little too much blue color for me. The 2strokes were great too but it was a tight squeeze behind the headlight (you basically take out the two headlight screws and tilt the them down to get them in)... while both are better than my stock halogens... they don't have as much throw as HIDs. That said, I've heard many complaints about the shaking & bouncing issue but will probably purchase the 35w 5500k anyways. I'd rather put in a few extra bucks for brighter and more throw. Just my 2 cents.

 

I went ahead and bit the bullet... I ordered the 35w 55k combination along with the XB fogs. They should be here tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers on the shaking issue.

I have the 55w and it is bright as hell its almost like having another high beam. I did change out the projector lens to a fully clear one I know that also helped. Most people I have seen do the 35w and not have a problem with it. When I get off work if it is still dark I will take a picture for you to see how it looks.

 

I don't know what the shaking is all about but Inhave had zero issues with mine. The only movement I can see is when the cutoff line is moving with the truck's movement. Great combo with the XB fogs.

 

I just ordered my set as well!! Went with 35W 5500k bulbs. Install and before/after pics to come this weekend!

 

Installed the XB fogs this evening. A stubby screwdriver is your best friend for the job. I "orangutan armed" through the whole thing, which took about 20 minutes. As others have said the XB color temp matches the DRL nicely.
I found it goofy that the green wire on the trucks connector is the power and white is negative, on the Morimoto the red wire is power and black is ground. Output and reach on the fogs is really good, I'm satisfied thus far.

As for the looked HID kit, I'll try to get around that tomorrow.

 

Is there a high beam bulb you guys have found that's nearly dead on in color with the 55w kit?

 

Just installed the 55w 6500k setup. This thing is super bright. I have NO BOUNCE!!! NO SHAKE!! Went on smooth and rough surface no problem. NO STATIC on the radio. For reference I have a 2017 TRD OR Acc Cab. Bulbs went in tight and all connectors feel of a relatively high quality. After reading all of the negative comments in this thread I was apprehensive but went through with it. DO IT!

 

I just installed my morimotos, 35w system with 5500 bulbs. Craziest thing, I get no bounce and no radio static issues, instead when I turn them on my subs quit working. I installed 2 8" JL subs with an aftermarket amp and the LC7i for RCA outs. If I start my truck and don't turn on the headlights the subs works great, as soon as I power on the lights it's like the power is taken away and the subs stop putting out bass. The LC7i still has power and the amp still has power just not pushing the subs at all. Any ideas on this one?
