Tried searching on the site but couldn't find anything.

How much fuel does one have from the fuel light going on until fumes? Or better yet, how far can you get, miles or kms (Canada, eh!)

Forgot to mention, its a 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport

One way to find out...put a gas can in the back, drive until the light goes on, set the trip odometer, and drive until it quits, and there's your answer. A different truck will run different distances based on any suspension or tire and wheel mods and so forth, so there is no set answer.

Was just curious as the light when on today.

And plan on trying out your suggestion but don't like the idea of running the truck till it stops.

    Have one of these ordered

Well, drive it until it starts to cough, pull to the side and shut it off before it totally quits, and that's going to give you your answer. Good luck, and let us know what you come up with!

3 inch lift with Toytec Boss and All Pro UCA's up front. AP expedition leafs with Bilstien 5100 shocks in the back. 255/85/16 Cooper S/T Max tires. All Pro skids, rear bumper and sliders, Hidden winch mount with XRC 8000 winch. Dual Optima batteries with IBS combiner/isolator and solar. CMC. Auto sliding rear window mod, hidden CB, CVJ axles and plenty of other little mods.
Or, a little less painful method. Drive until the light comes on. Fill up immediately. Total gas capacity - how much you put in = how much was left. You should know your mpg. My light consistently comes on with 4 gallons left.

Mine seems to come on a little early. Around 4.5-5 gallons.

I usually drive about 40 more miles once my light goes on.

With four gallons left with the light on you should be able to get at least 100km or so before you're completely out of gas.

On the off chance that you don't know - the fuel pump is in the gas tank and is cooled by the gas - every time you pull this stunt you shorten the life of the fuel pump - if you already knew and continue to do it this the answer is you can't fix stupid.

It's not as critical as you think. I've never had to replace a failed electric fuel pump in my decades of driving. 4 vehicles in the fleet right now. No failed electric fuel pumps. :pccoffee:

Thanks everyone. This is not something that I do all the time. I'd be more worried about sucking grunge off the bottom of the tank than the fuel pump.

The fuel pump sits in a "bath tub" that fills from the return line and overflows out the top. The fuel pump is always completely submerged in fuel even when the tank is low. Overheating the fuel pump by running the tank down to the low fuel warning light is a myth. The only way to burn up the pump would be to run the tank bone dry.

This is nothing new. My 35 year old '82 Trans Am with Cross-Fire fuel injection has the bath tub design for cooling the fuel pump.

My light comes on and I need exactly 17 gallons. It SUPPOSEDLY holds 21.1, but it depends on if you fill up to the top, which is supposed to be "very bad", or stop when the pump clicks it off. I have always filled to the top, with no problem, but I will be labeled "very bad" for doing so.
