Anyone think we will see a supercharger for the 3.5?

Dude I just got out of a 2015 f150 with a 3.5 ecoboost and that think didn't lack for nothing. It was like a diesel don't believe everything you read on the internet. I kick myself in the ass everyday for getting rid of that truck for this cheap pos.

I can confirm also that Magnuson is in the works for the 3.5 and also the dual vvti 1gr in the 4runner. I spoke with someone at sema about this in november. If you also follow them on instagram people are always asking about both engines and the response is "in the works".

I think this engine is Toyotas choice, not them being forced into it by government. They're known for designing light efficient cars/trucks. Other manufacturers are doing just fine "laboring" under the same regulations, all while designing powerful engines and bringing diesels to the market. It's just not Toyotas way to take chances like that.

As far as a supercharger goes, it would be interesting to see how longevity would be affected if one were designed for the 3.5. Being that it is made to be a lower compression engine, I wonder how well stock internals would hold up under higher compression in the long run.

It's got forged crank and rods I don't see why it couldn't handle 8-10# of boost with no issues.

Agreed. From what I understand it's better to start with a lower compression ratio when adding a aftermarket FI system.

If the 3.5 was already a high compression engine it wouldn't fair as well once you added FI

How is it a pos? I test drove a few... one from all trim levels... when I was in the market for my tundra just to see how they feel. I was impressed and would buy one had I not been in need of a full sized. The power was fine... granted you had to be in higher RPMs than I'm used to in the 4.0. The quite cab was a nice change, and the tech got its much needed upgrade. I'm 6'5" so I'm not much into the loss of headroom from the sunroof.

It's in a completely different class from the full size F150? Kinda sounds like comparing apples to oranges IMO.Comparing the Tundra to an F150 I could understand.

For what it's worth...I'd also like to see the Ford compared to Toyota 10 years down the road, but I know this is data that cannot be compared. The F150 is nice now, but how will the truck hold up.

My 2008 Taco is in excellent condition compared to most 2008 and even most 2011 rangers for that matter... and it regularly gets beat off-road and what not. (I understand we are talking about 3rd gens here. Just using the example for what is expected following the trend.)

Especially when the 3rd gen is a way beefier 2nd gen. Most all the structural components are stronger in comparison. The engine is the only thing you can bitch about but it's going to last forever so if you don't like it leave. And the 3rd gen v6 manual is faster than a ecoboost with the right driver.

You have lost your damn mind!! A f150 with a 3.5 ecoboost will leave the Tacoma by a bunch!!

Well for one the transmission keeps the truck in such a low rpm it feels like it has 50hp.

    2. The power steering pump making the engine rev up 3 to 400 rpm with the slightest movement. Really sucks in drive throughs and in tight places.

    3. It will not maintain 75 mph with out shifting down to 4th gear and Reving 4K rpm on the slightest hill.

    4. The cab noise is terrible, I helped that a lot with foam on the rear cab vents. Sad a customer has to put foam on a cab vent on a 41k sticker price truck.

    5. This engine Miss fires all the time and the dealer says that's normal lmfao!!

That's about it and really the reason I call this truck a pos. I hope this explains It for you thanks.

And as for your previous post. I can't agree more.

I'm not the engineer here... but the "misfire" might be from the Atkinson and not really a misfire? If your engine is was misfiring, it would throw a code?

Have you ever driven a 2nd gen? If not... there is a huge difference in cab noise.

I'd be pissed about the power steering, didn't notice that at all on my test drives... but then again I was never sitting still turning the wheel to look for it.

Again my question stands... did you test drive the truck before you bought it??? :anonymous:

Keep in mind again, the F150's ecoboost motor is/was designed to mimic a V8 for towing and haul capacity. It's a full size truck after all...

Yes I test drove it around in the city for about 30 minutes no hills not 75mph freeways. You know how it goes you really can't see all the flaws on a little test drive. I like the way the truck looks and had thought the Tacoma was going to be a nice truck. But the more I drive it the more I see all the flaws and see how cheap made it really is. And no I have never driven a gen2 if it's worse than this truck god help the gen 2 guys. I will be going back to a f150 after I drive this Tacoma enough to justify the lose. Toyota really needs to be held accountable for putting out such a poor designed powertrain in this truck. All you guys that think this truck is great you really need to get out from under your rock and go see what else is out there, man will you be shocked at how bad Toyota has been laying wood to you!!

And yes I agree the 3.5 ecoboost is on the same lines as a v8. I was just responding to the not so intelligent guy that said a Tacoma would out run the f150 3.5 ecoboost.

I agree with the power plant. Terrible deal and the hunting for gears is one thing I didn't like.

I have a Second gen still and cab noise is BS... but they did do the power plant and trans correct. It is my solid off-roading rig. There are little things I too didn't notice on test drive with my 2nd gen that bothered me a little bit, but all in all I'm still happy with its 9 years of existence and probably many more!

Yea I hear you. I believe this truck will last a long time. But I just can't stand to drive it to find out. I guess you can say I expected more for my 40k I guess.

I would too! Part of the reason I pulled the trigger on my '17 tundra. I got it for just a few thousand more than the TRD OR 4x4 I was looking at with premium tech.

Couldn't justify that cost of a new Tacoma.
