Called Toyota this morning, they told me that the dealer will call me to schedule an inspection of it. If they agree on the issue then Toyota will have one of their reps come out to inspect it and decided what they want to do. I know there are always slight mismatches, but this one feels like a little too much. It is much more apparent in person.

Ghosts are real... I've had an NDE.... I was on the other side...mainly saw dogs. Now go live in a house where there was a suicide.. then tell me there's no ghosts, just sayin.

Hey OP, what you are experiencing is the Tacoma 2 tone paint factory installed. Completely normal, we all have it.

Originally it started with just the MGM color and now spread to all colors. If you don't think you have it.... look again... also its not just the trim and the body panels that are different.
    It's all 2 tone.

Former auto body painter here - there is always a slight difference because the plastic parts require a flex agent to be added to the paint that alters it ever so slightly. On some colors/shades it's a little more obvious. Simple as that.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I think that could be alleviated by a bit more "Quality Control" from the paint dept. of Toyota manufacturing! I have noticed this for many years in particular on the Camry line of cars!

I am management representative at a high volume assembly plant for one of the big 3. Slight colour mismatches are common between components from suppliers; fascias, mirrors, etc... and the body of the car painted in the paint shop. Generally things are exasperated when they are at a location where the two paint colours are touching (Fascias). You have to remember that everything is based on a specification, including colour. This is set by the designers. The paint department has nothing to do with it; as when the vehicle is painted the mirrors/fascias are not installed yet! This would be the responsibility of the final assembly department, or pre-delivery inspection to knock it down and prevent an out of specification part from being shipped to the customer. There is a chance that the mismatch may be within the specification defined by Toyota Engineering. It is my opinion that the degree of mismatch is entirely unacceptable, although I have thought that about many of the cars to leave the end of my line - however we are generally powerless to stop it if it falls within that specification. If the paint mixed in the paint shop happens to be at one end of the specification, while the paint mixed at the supplier at the other end of the specification then the difference is more noticeable.

Nope, unfortunately it can't. If I mix a gallon (about what was generally needed for a whole car) of paint to paint a car, and set aside a couple of pints for the fascias, to which I would add flex agent, they could/probable will, look slightly different. That's mixing one gallon to paint one complete car. If I mix two seperate gallons of the same color, and am off a by + a few drops of one tint, and - a few drops of a different tint in the other, they'll look slightly different. Imagine manufactures, as the poster above stated, painting the body and fascias at to different locations, mixing huge quantities of paint. First world problems.
