A little known secret: Tundra cleats fit our rails and they are made of aluminum/metal. Frontiers are a different size.

EDIT: I have seen the post and pixs of the busted plastic cleat. It broke clean into from the weight/stress of the motorcycle with rachet tie downs. Between the two forces he probably exceeded the 220 # limit

Correct, the Tundra cleats are what looks to be aluminum, and will fit the tracks, and are slightly larger too. I still think if used at the limit, the bedside panel/tracks will distort to the point of damage before the cleat fails. I like the cleat/rail system; and if it had been an option vs standard, I would gladly have paid ~ $100.00 or so for it as in most Tundra models, but only to tiedown/segregate light/bulky items, and use the existing hooks along with additional front ones to tiedown heavier bikes etc.

Is it just me, or is the weak point in the rail system the rail and not the fact that the cleat is plastic? I highly doubt the plastic will break under even 300-400 lbs of pull, but the rail flexes so much even tying down a sport bike that it made me slightly uncomfortable.

Anyone think the plastic is actually what is rated at only 220 lbs?

You mean the bed mat? You don't have to do that. You could just go to a farm supply store, get a rubber horse mat, and cut that while the toyota bed mat is stored somewhere.

Am I making it harder than it really is? Can I just buy the D-rings, remove the bolts on the bed, slip in the D-rings, and but the bolt back on?

That's more or less all that's involved. Depending on the type of D-rings you get you may need to enlarge the hole for the bolt to go through and knock the washer on the bolt passed the lock rings. Someone above mention how to do that.

Other than that, I would recommend an impact wrench and Torx bit like I mentioned in the DIY guide I did. A breaker bar just ain't gonna cut it. :D

Hey guys you're making this way to hard. Go to a junk yard and take the tie downs out of a blazer or simaler. There universal and fold down. No loss of bed space. The bed has 6 bolts 2 of which (at the rear) have D-rings the other four now have these. And only cost me $1 each. Besides the D-rings from Toyota cost around $50 each not worth it.[IMG]

    rajah dat.

these things are so flimsy, both the tie down itself and the rail. ive ratched stuff down and seen the rail move UP.

& out of the 16 I have, only 7 work now.
either i leave them out and they get stuck and lock up, or one of my idiot friends spins it way to much and fks it up.
