Does 3rd gen have neutral safety switch for M/T?

Haven't been able to find anything on current gen models. Hoping someone with knowledge knows.

 

Not sure what a neutral safety switch is... you cannot start the truck without the clutch in unless you it the button for clutch start .... this button you can push and use the starter to help you out of mud or sand... is that what you're asking about??

 

I know my 2011 second gen does

 

The Neutral Safety Switch is the switch in the shifter that prevents starting in any selected gear other than Park or Neutral, every car has this.

The clutch start switch is in the pedal and prevents starting without the clutch being depressed, which our trucks have.

The clutch cancel bypass has been in all manual toyota trucks since the 80's, god bless that button. This is a blessing for mechanics like me whom do not want to get entirely in the truck to start it.

 

My understanding is that it's a switch that knows if the trans is in gear or not.

That's a good sign.

 

Nice... I as trying to figure out a "real" use for it.... I never really got the "helps getting out" deal... I'm sure it might come in handy ... maybe on the beach and I forgot to air down...even then get out air down... get to the axles it ain't gonna help.

 

I don't have that clutch cancel switch in my 01

 

The real use for it is when you are off road in a tight situation, shut the truck off and push the button, put it in 1st gear and turn the key to ride your way out on the starter motor.

 

Odd, maybe its a market thing, up here every truck I've worked on or owned has the switch.

 

Let me clarify, I have a clutch cancel button in my 2nd gen. If the truck it's in gear and you use that button the truck will lunge forward. It doesn't know what gear you are in, you have to make sure you are in neutral

Is it a 2WD? I've yet to see a m/t 4WD Toyota without a clutch start cancel switch.

all the MT's don't have the clutch start cancel button? hmm. mine does.

 

This is what makes me believe that it doesn't have a neutral safety switch.

 

I see you replaced your shift knob...are you selling your stock one by chance?

 

i am not. but I'm sure you'll be able to get one elsewhere. I'm keeping all my OE bits, just not on my truck.

 

and that's the reason. It's there to prevent rollback in off road situations. I don't think they ever put it on the 2WD trucks.

 

No neutral safety switch. You can enable clutch cancel and use your starter motor while in gear to move your truck.

 

They have neutral safety switches dude... on manuals it's built into the clutch. Try starting the vehicle without the clutch in.
