Certainly. There is this new wave of people who believe you need to build your car if you want respect for it. I think they're forgetting that there are professionals working for toyota that spend countless hours designing the cars (including trd pro). They might not make a rock hopping beast, but you can rest assured they thought everything through when designing it.

I was pretty sold on the tacoma, and then many people started pushing me to the 4runner on this forum. After doing some 'youtube research' i figured the trucks are almost equally as capable. Maybe the 4runner will be smoother, but the tacoma can get you there too. (With a dirt bike in the back, so you can go to the waterfall they can't see... haha)

Baffles me that a forum called "Tacoma World" has so many Tacoma hater/4runner lovers.

Agreed, though, the bed is the selling point for me to go with a Tacoma over a 4runner (and the 6-speed manual). I mean, I was in the market for a TRUCK after selling my other TRUCK. So, I bought a TRUCK. Because I was looking for a TRUCK and not another SUV. :)

Also, I've been wheeling trucks my whole life and for me it's a mountain bike that gets the rear seat in the bed.

Makes sense! For me its a bike, couple gas bins, and all the muddy clothes! I find it hilarious when people pay a fortune to mount a gas tank on their SUV, and i just toss the 5 gallon bin in the back.

P.S. All you kids out there, trucks are much easier to drift the back out on dusty/sandy roads. Just in case you want to mess around a little. Goodluck drifting the heavy 4Runner without regretting it- It grips like a monster

Picked up my MT PRO yesterday. Had 4 miles on the ticker. Now its got 40 and today It will get prob 150 more. Ive barely gotten to play around with anything but I love it already. I know alot of people think the PRO is overpriced, but I paid $2000 under sticker and Im so glad I pulled the trigger on getting a PRO. I also had pretty much the best dealership experience imaginable from a very small family owned dealership that just celebrated its 40th year with Toyota. Shell and nicer tires should be arriving Monday. Already got my FN FX wheels and I will be selling these take offs as soon as the tires arrive.

Metal chips and shavings that get on your vehicle and rust.

Comes from railroad track areas usually ... some from transport trucks.

It can ruin your paint too ... especially lighter colors.

Looks like Ill be joining the club soon enough! Question for anyone that has done bank financing (because we all know toyota isnt giving 0% on this truck)... I get the premise of how its done, but its not like customer service at the bank is open 24/7. So, supposing the financing is all arranged, no prepayment penalties, would it be easier to not wait on hold forever (option a: having the dealer call in the bank and what not) and going with option b: let the dealer sign me up for whatever skyhigh rate, full well knowing Im walking to my bank on the first business day and saying,"I got pre-approved for so-and-so loan, heres the purchase agreement, can you pay them off now before my first payment is due?"

Bank Im working with will not cut be a blank check (that I know of), its all done by phoning in on this sheet Im supposed to hand to the dealer.

Everyone's bank will be slightly different but option B seems like a lot of work. In my case, my credit union wouldn't send me with a blank check, but I sat at the dealer's office (before my "ordered" truck came in) and we worked out the paperwork as if it was delivery day. Depending on your state's laws you should have a long sheet of paper with the exact amount due (all calculated out on carbon copy paper). I took that sheet to the credit union; they cut a check for the exact amount. Two days later when my truck hit the lot, I walked in, signed a few times, handed them that check and walked out.

In your case, take delivery during regular business hours and let the dealer handle the BS of being on the phone. Typically these loan based customer service lines don't dick around as much as if you or I called and had questions on a personal checking account. They actually stand to make interest off of you so they'll do what they can to make it more painless.

Guys my estimated date of arrival is feb 18-24. I will be going to the dealership on Monday to make my final decision on taco or 4Runner. The manager told me i can go either or and have the truck around the same time basically he will pull a trade for a cement 4Runner with another dealer. He said as long as he offers a pro for a pro it's not an issue. I really love the taco but have to take into consideration my family. It will mainly be a daily driver to and from work but on the weekends I usually use it to haul other people with me. I'm still not 100% I know the 4Runner is bigger and I've been in one before but I've never sat in a 3rd gen taco so Monday he said he'll have a double cab short bed for me to take on a test drive and check out so I can make my decision.

We wanted to get some type of extended warranty (Toyota Care Plus) as well as a deal where they cover your oil changes for 5 years or whatever. If you go through Toyota Financial (through the dealership), they'll cut you a deal on the extended warranty and oil change deal. In the long-run, it was going to save us money as I now have Toyota do my oil changes (don't have time to do my own and I'll only let Toyota do my oil changes). Once all was said and done, State Farm offered us a nice re-fi option where they offered free GAP insurance and gave us a much better rate. This was done about a week after we purchased the Pro. State Farm issued a check to Toyota Financial and since there were no early-payoff penalties, we were done with Toyota Financial after the first week and still got to keep the Toyota Care plan. Your bank can do the same thing as State Farm.

If you don't care about the Toyota Care Plus, then as mentioned, just have the dealership get on the phone with your bank or other banks to get a better deal. Or, while they're on the phone, you can get on the phone with your bank to see what type of rate they'll give you.

I guess what I'm getting at, you can always re-fi a day, a week or a month after you drive off the lot. You'll only have to pay for the title-fee which is like $30 or something.

Thanks for the info! I may not luck on on the week thing due to work schedule but I appreciate both of your insight(s) into this process as Im used to dealer financing only except when the rate is probably going to be like 5%+ and bank is half that!

I sat in a double cab limited today and I can see now what people are saying about the seat being too low and the steering wheel being too low. Its not as comfortable as I was hoping.

The limited has the sunroof right? My dad's Sport with the sun roof feels like it sits lower than my TRD Pro. I'm not sure if the seat has been dropped to make up for the lower head clearance in the sunroof models but it does feel that way. Try sitting in a non-sunroof model.

my Pro's seat was too high and flat for me, so i had a local upholstery shop carve out more bucket which made it comfortable and dropped the seating position a bit as well. it's great now, super comfortable... before my right leg got numb after an hour or so in the seat.

I'm really not sure but my pro is coming in the next week or so and I'll let you guys know what happens if it's not for me I'll have to pass and the dealership said they'll do their best to swap it with another dealer for a 4Runner pro and if that doesn't happen then I'll just order a 4Runner pro and just wait. It's too big of an investment for me to not be happy. And I've sat in several 4runners and it's so much more comfortable. The seating position and the support on your legs plus the steering wheel isn't sitting right on my lap. I thought I'd be able to adjust and lift the steering wheel but when I hit the lever it was already all the way up, huge disappointment.
