I haven't been anywhere yet . So far now I have things I need to buy from SDHQ Sierra expeditions and I'm pretty sure I was thinking about giving Avid some of my money too. I really do need to get out and visit some these local shops.

 

Ha ha, yeah you do! We are very lucky to have such great shops in our back yard. Brandon at Avid Off-road is way cool, Ryan, Cliff and Serena at SDHQ kick ass and Will over at Sierra is one of the nicest guys. No problem supporting all of them. I think Sierra will have a lot of things that are right up your alley

For anyone interested in first aid kits I'll be updating this thread over the next couple weeks as time permits.

 

I dropped the 20lb co2 tank off at Canyon fire extinguisher for hydrostatic testing. The guy said it looked like new even though it was manufactured in 1993 and never had been retested. That tells me it must have been in storage for a long time.
It should be done next week so I'm gonna roll the dice and order the rest of the parts today. I was originally thinking a 150psi fixed pressure regulator but since the tank only cost me 22 bucks for the hydrotest I think I'm gonna splurge and pick up the Hyperflo 0-250psi regulator. I looked into a bunch of regulators but these 2 seemed to be the best options. There are definately cheaper regulators out there but they are not designed for high CFM and will freeze up.

 

20lb co2 tank is back from hydrostatic testing and fill. A little arts and crafts while waiting for snail mail to bring the rest of the needed parts.

Half ass rattle can job. It's co2 tank afterall.

Your gonna be VERY happy with compressed Co2. The time saved alone is worth all the effort. Air compressor will be a great backup but for airing back up your tires, this will be your new primary!

 

That's what I'm hoping for! It's always the decision of whats the bigger hassle, refilling or dealing with the miles of vibration from the sh!ty washboard roads. Im still hapy with the compressor for filling up the ride-rite bags when we go on our "glamping" trips but definatly happy to retire it to backup status.

Have you tried any pneumatic tools with your powertank yet? I'm thinking of picking up that stuby composite 1/2" impact from harbor freight to keep in the truck.

 

I actually did run my Snap-on 3/8's impact with it and it performed great. Had plenty of torque so wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up a cheap impact to have in the truck. You've got a big tank too, so you won't have any problems having more than enough Co2 to run air tools

 

Awesome that's good to know. I actually need to put a dedicated trail/travel tool kit together specific for my truck. One of these days...

 

The rest of the parts showed up so of course I had to test out the new Co2 tank! IT'S BAD ASS!!! I'm really happy JerryTaco put the Powertank in commission so I could learn about the awesomeness! It will definatley make less of a choir of airing down and open up the use of pneumatic tools on road trips. I'm not satisfied that either of the cylinder brackets I bought will hold the 55lb (full) tank so they'll be going back and I'm going to order 3 of the super quickfist cylinder holders. IAS uses them for their co2 tank systems and 1 strap is rated for 50lbs so I figure 3 should give me the piece of mind I'm looking for.

The test was simple. Air up one 265 70r16 tire with the ARB compressor and the other with the co2 tank.

15 psi starting point.

Results!!!
The ARB compressor did the job in 2 minutes and 27 seconds. The compressor also went from 69F to 117F during the operation. I've previously expierenced blister your fingers temps after airing up 4 tires from about 12psi to 35psi.

The Co2 tank did the same job in 19 seconds flat. It probably could have went even faster but I'm limited to 200psi because I got a deal (5$) on the green recoil airhose which has a max rating of 200psi. The color is rad which afterall is most important...

I was also curious if the psi in the tire would change on the co2 side since the the gas converting from liquid to solid is an exothermic reaction. The cold gas could potentially expand as it rewarms throwing off the initial PSI readings. After 30 mins parked in the sun I rechecked the Co2 side and found no significant changes

Yeah it's crazy how fast that works!! 700lbs springs are definatly in the cards this spring/summer. Along with tires (finally!!) swapping the n-fabs for sliders and snorkel Im also curious if the Avid rear tube bumper protector would interfere with the reverse and bsm sensors? Maybe gears too if the truck hates life pulling the camper with 255/85s. And I thought I was close to being done

 

Finally found some good quality mounts for the Co2 tank. I used 3 of these rubber super quick fist chingaderas. Each on will hold up 9.5" cylinder and has a 50lb working weight. I figure the tank is 55lbs full so better safe than sorry.

The tank is very secure and am now confident it won't be going anywhere.

The factory tri-fold tonneau still fits!!
