I purchased a TRDOR rather than ordering a Pro at the time. I could have had either. Just so happened that they had exactly what I wanted in the right color with the right options on the lot. They also gave me more than what I wanted for my trade, and that was something I was certainly not willing to walk away from. I have no regrets at all.

From the way you worded your post, it seems you would be happier with a Pro. I think you should go for a Pro, put a nice set of tires on it, and call it a day. Everything in your "to-do" list for the TRDOR is done on the Pro except for the tires. The price gap between a modded TRDOR and a Pro is pretty small. Do what your gut tells you to do. Don't change your mind just to fit the mold of the members here.

    All bad math.
Your giving exceptionally "good" prices for a well equipped OR, and exceptionally "bad" prices for a Pro.

Anyone paying over sticker for a Pro is just lazy. There's plenty out there selling at or less than sticker with a bit of pressure, and possibly traveling or shipping.

I paid sticker, then took off $2k worth of dealer add ons and sold them (mats, predator steps, tonneau)- using that money to add better gear (mobtown sliders, SSO winch bumper, ordering a diamondback HD tonneau).

Make the comparison on averages, not opposite extremes.

My shopping indicates a 3-4K avg diff between similarly equipped OR vs Pro. The resale retention was enough to sway me towards Pro.

If you want to mod, OR is a no brainer. I want to mod, but am satisfied with a milder suspension...

That's what I did. I could argue that I saved $4K by doing this.

AS far as leather seats go: Clazzio has some REALLY nice covers for these trucks for $400-600 and those Wet Okoles can be installed for $1200 or less. Both are customizable and look better than the crap Toyota is putting on. The limited seats feel like fake plastic leather.

Had a chance to but the TT version of the fj as opposed to the offroad package. I loved the offroad version, did everything I wanted, but after 5+ years, there was not a day that went buy that I said, that TT could have been mine with all the bells and whistles and for what? To save 3k (at the time)? I spent more than that in mods to make it like the TT.

So if you're happy with the offroad take it and don't look back. But if you have any inclination for the pro, just buy it. Socal dealers will sell for msrp, but short supply right now... wait til the 2018 come out and they'll discount any pro on the lot.

Two significant things that swayed me to the OR were the Moonroof and the JBL option. Plus I disliked the (IMHO) overly shouty look-at-me TRD Pro badging and seats. Also hated the decorative skewp.

I have not regretted my decision at all. Not even for a moment.

Op is in Cali will an out of state vehicle pass their emission regulations? maybe their isn't a difference nowadays.

If you find the pro for the right price and color I say go that. However if you find an o/r I color and options try and get it at a great price and then spend 2k in extras and you'll still be less than the Pro. Sales tax sucker here in nebraska too, almost always worth trading old vehicle in to offset the sales tax on the put of pocket cash.

in my opinion (since I was faced with the exact same question a couple months ago)

for the extra $5-$7k that you save by buying the TRD OR, you can put full fox suspension, wheels and tires, and a TRD Pro grill on.

you'll not only have more color choices, but in SOCAL (like here in Hawaii) I wouldnt want leather seats because the sun gets pretty intense here. So cloth seats that dont burn my legs, but I love still keeping the ability to keep those heated seats for those chilly 65* mornings here in Hawaii :D

i bought my TRD OffRoad and i dont regret it for a single second.

If you intend to keep the vehicle completely stock, go with the Pro.

If you intend to modify the vehicle go with the TRD OR.

The difference is basically cosmetics and a narrowly better suspension.

You can find dealers willing to sell at MSRP in SoCal. I've gone to 2 dealers who do this. Just need to ask.

At both Longo and Toyota Carlsbad I have deposits for a MT Pro and both sell at MSRP.

I've done the math, at 8% sales tax a base MT Pro OTD is around 45.5k. A base AT Pro is 2k more, so 47.5k. Look up Pasadena's sales tax rate if you want a better picture.

Go to a dealer, see what they will let the OR go for OTD, then add up all the modifications you want to do to the OR. See if it comes out to more than a Pro. If OR+mods<Pro, get the OR. Vice versa.

I'm currently waiting on my 2nd MT Pro after the first one slipped through my fingers at Longo. Considering I don't plan to modify my Taco substantially at all, the Pro is a no brainer choice for me.

If you do go with a Pro, go soon. Waitlists are lonnnnng, especially for ATs.

Disagree. I'm modding my Pro a lot.
Sliders, bumpers and winches, etc. the only thing I'm NOT modding is the suspension. @Bray1197 has shown 285/70s fit fine, you don't need 6in of lift to have a more than capable Offroad truck.

I'll also add... many folks factor the lack of sunroof. Not sure why that's a huge factor, itll get covered by a roof rack.

I got a 47.5k Pro in GA for 41.7. Leather seats aren't power, but they're nice.

exactly. it's why i got the truck.

wanted a better suspension. wanted leather seats. wanted resale value. not modding anything irreversible, just every single damn thing that isn't. and keeping all the OE stuff. it's awesome, super happy with the drive.

Thats the thing though, the only real difference is the suspension and arguably one of the most expensive if you want it to be. Since you aren't swapping suspensions, its a moot point.
