It was a last minute decision. He's lucky I even came up past exit 38. I almost turned around.

So I tried to get a reservation yesterday for my trailer around Umatilla and Hermiston. After calling a couple places, they all seemed closed on Sundays, so I decided that I would leave early and drive down this morning, leave my trailer at the jobsite for the day and check in after work. My driveway was the worst part of Spokane area, i90 over to Ritzville was bare and wet with snow/rain mix coming down for part of that section. South of Ritzville on 395 I was doing fine except my back end got squirrelly a couple times, especially on some hill climbs. Black ice can be fun, especially pulling a little travel trailer about 55-60 mph. In 4wd, it was fine. I am down to Kennewick now, with about 30-45 min more to get to the job shack.

Sounds like an early morning for you if you are driving now. Though I prefer driving in snow early when the idiots aren't on the road.

I of course was coming into work on overtime and right as we are getting to work get a call for two hour late start so far. Figures. O well though easy day and easy overtime. Even had time to stop at the Fred Meyers parking lot for a few minutes of fun :)

How many HP on the 10 cyl? And yes, we've got doors you can walk into the crank case with. There are ladders inside the engine for climbing up to the crosshead bearing. MAN has made a lot of material and design improvements over the years to get lots of power out of a smaller package. This one is sitting right around 20,000hp. I worked on a Sulzer for a while that was almost twice the size as this engine but just barely over half the horsepower. The MAN is also a hell of a lot more complicated. This one doesn't have a cam, everything is computer controlled through hydraulics. It makes setting firing pressures and adjusting for fuel quality pretty easy, along with reversing the engine. It can also compensate automatically for fuel pump and liner wear. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future. MARPOL rules coming down the pipeline are going to make it difficult to burn residual fuels due to emissions. Fuel is cheap right now, but I think the last fuel price spike we had is still on the minds of the companies. Add in Panama's new capacity and it all makes for an interesting time in the industry.

I got out of bed about 12, left home about 1:15. Job started at 6, and I am currently sitting through the safety meeting. Roads weren't as bad as I thought they might be.

That's not to bad then. Roads weren't bad at all when I left. But I was mostly driving on fresh snow. Hearing from people coming g in now, since the roads have been plowed it's way worse. Uncovered ice and made it slushy

I wish, I'm heading into work so I don't have to toast any vacation days. Hunting season is right around the corner:p
