I don't know why people voluntarily live in certain parts of the USA

And we like that

 

Because the only West Coast state that is warm year round is California and that might as well be hell. Lived there for 5 years, be happy to never live there again. Cool to visit but that many people even in a big state is insufferable. Cold is nice, means you get fun winter stuff and it often provides your wooded areas with water all year.

 

I don't care about the west coast

Having lived in Beaverton, OR, Queen Anne Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, St. Louis, and Raleigh I just wouldn't pick some of the places that doesn't allow me to ride or drive sports cars year round or have depressing cloudy sky's 200 days a year

If I could pick today I would live in Austin :

Educated demographic
Dirt cheap third world price housing
Great sports car culture
Easy to register Ariel Atom
And best No state income tax
2 hour flights to everywhere

I just move away from the rust belt, bible belt, and large collections of people. Don't particularly want to be near any of those. So eastern wa does a decent job of keeping from all of that. Best part is we get something like 310 days of clear sun even if it isn't always warm. Although this place turns into a furnace around July.

If I had to live somewhere in Texas, I would live in Austin/Round Rock. Beautiful area.

As it is, I'm kinda nudging the wife to move to Idaho or Western Montana or Wyoming (not on the prairie). Great country, great people, great hunting. But she keeps yammering on about silly stuff like needing employment, being within driving distance of family, yadda-yadda-yadda. Women....

 

So disregard ~80% of the state?

 

Flat is not my thing. I'm a mountain guy.

 

Can't blame ya for that, flat is only worth something at the drag strip.

 

And we're Tacoma owners. We're only speedy if we're going downhill. So we really have no use for flat.
