Body lifts suck. Buy a decent shock set and AAL. Why spend 40k on a truck only to have to pay more money down the line to repair components damaged from a crappy body lift? I guess it is fine if you mall crawl.

Body lift? My understanding is that's only really applicable to a street truck. You can get a size or two bigger tire but there's not an increase in ground clearance so there's no benefit for offroading.

Body lifts are GREAT! Plus you get the really cool gap between the bumpers and the body.

I didn't even think about the bumper problem, wouldn't work very well with the front bumper.

So you guys are happy with what you got and an extra inch is not needed?
I really thought it would be nice but I get the bumper gap.

I was thinking with my lift and a 1 inch body lift might be able to run 35s for trail use.

In my off-road experience, there are benefits to a body lifts - with the addition of a taller tire.

Body lifts give you more tire to body clearance, and they also have the added benefit of not messing with factory driveline angles, as well as keeping the truck's center of gravity at about the same as it is from the factory. Aesthetics will suffer without the addition of brackets for bumpers, and it will make your engine (and anything else under the hood) a lot harder to work on.

Suspension Lifts give more frame clearance, but put added stress on driveline components. Lifts, when done correctly, can give you better articulation, and control on the trail.

Both are valid options based on what you plan on doing, not just Mall Crawling. But Suspension lifts do look a lot nicer.

Take my $.02 for what it's worth, and do not do a body lift more than 3", they look ridiculous.

That's what I was looking at it for

Just a little more clearance for some 295s so I don't have to hack up any of the fender

If your frame gap looks like the Toyobaru to the right, you're doing it wrong...

You're thinking exactly what I was thinking... The key is that it's not all body lift... I've done a 2.5" suspension lift plus 2" body lift on my first gen Tacoma and it was the perfect combo for the mud and sand back in Hawaii and what I used it for.

For my new 3rd gen, I'm thinking about a 1.5" suspension with 6112's, AALs in the rear, and a 1" body lift. That way I should get the clearance I need and not worry too much on alignment and CV angles. I won't be doing any of that rock crawling (though wish I had somewhere) like a lot of other folks, so this is perfect for my fire roads in South Carolina.

Correct me if I am wrong, but even a 6" suspension lift does not move your rear diff any higher off the ground, just the frame. Lifting the diff does not occur until you put bigger tires on. A body lift does that. A suspension lift does it better obviously. Our Jeep had a 1" body lift and 2" spacer for the suspension. Was not a bad budget combo for that vehicle. Of course on an older Jeep the gap with the bumper is really not noticeable as the lines of the body are much different than a 3rd Gen Taco.

Absolutely, only way to raise the diff is bigger diameter on the wheels. I didn't realize originally that OP was talking about combining body with a suspension lift, makes a lot more sense that way. And yeah, the look on older jeeps or even pickups with bumpers that aren't blended into the body don't look too bad, but if the front bumper on the tacoma had a gap up to the body I think it would look kinda bad, that could be solved with brackets to raise the front bumper up an inch, or a custom steel bumper that makes up the gap.

For maximum clearance you could always go this route lol https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/things-that-make-you-say-wtf.26810/page-3818#post-14307459

Also looking at combing 2" suspension with a 1" body. Any one here actually done it? Just looking for tips. Do you have to lift your gas cap? Any issues with the rad fan? I know that you can adjust the bumper back up once you are done.
