Buying tires, 265/70 or 265/75

I see a lot of people posting 265/75/16 on here but everywhere I call say I want 70's. I am running just regular TRD Off-road rims. Does it even matter?

 

70's are P rated or Passenger car tires, 75's are LT light truck.

70's are factory. 75's are the next step up.

I think P are 4 ply. LT are rate like this: C - 6 ply, D - 8ply, E - 10ply

Every level up gets tougher sidewall and tread but gets rougher and heavier. And your mileage drops each level too.

If you stay on the street then P works, the more you offroad the more you go from C to E rated.

Ah ok thanks. So if I am mostly street with a little bit of off-road here and there I probably want to stick in the P rating.

 

My suggestion:

Never offroad - P rated
Seldom offroad - C rated
Often offroad - D rated
Offroad machine - E rated

P rated are pretty soft and likely punctured. But it depends on your personal driving.
