I have a question about rear suspension.. :crapstorm:

I owned the truck 3 years ago with a 2" block on the rear and stock leaf pack. I changed my shocks for some ranchos with adjustable stiffness for my need (towing the atv and work, or week end smooth ride). But now I added a shell and the rear is sagging... I would like to lift the rear 1.5"(AAL) to correct the sag. My situation is:

My shocks at full extension are 22"(according to ranchos website), and when I mesure my shocks at rest, they are 19", so I have 3" of down travel. For the use I have from the truck, 3" seems to be ok but when I hit some trails to reach fishing spot I think it is not enough and so worst with AAL...

I would like to have opinions on the options I have to correct my situation...

    Thx!

If your running the stock pack, just get a new pack if you can swing it.

I'm running the dakars with the overloads and they are great. Something similar would be the all pro expedition pack.

Another option is to get your current pack rebuilt/re arched. However the newly built pack may ride harsher than the engineered packs from the companies.

I'm assuming your running a lift up front and don't mind rake that the setup may give you unloaded. Also don't know the travel numbers of the leafs I have posted and I don't know how it will pair with your shock absorbers.

AAL will help a bit, but the arch of new AAL's might not match up nicely to sagging stock leafs. not to mention they too will start to sag over time especially with a cap. I would recommend new leaf pack, dakars or all pro expo like mentioned previously. they usually give a good 3'' of lift with no weight so with that cap in there should sit you down around that 2'' mark. but again not sure how well the shocks will match up when ur trying to hit ur fishing spots. on road should be fine but might max out the shock off road depending if you find yourself stretching out the taco

actually now that I think of it, we would need to know the measurement of the sock at full compression to know how much travel the shock has. 22 extended and 19 and rest gives you 3 inches of up travel. so if your rear end wheel lifts more then that while off road u should consider some good bump stops lol the only way to know down travel would be to know the measurement @ full compression

I have a 1.5 thick spacer in front, wich I am not ready yet to swap for another setup, I am more concerned about the rear. You are also right on the fact that I don't mind to have a rake, I kinda like it lol. With all the comments about Dakars, I am pretty sure that the ride will be better than just an AAL.

If I do remove my 2" block and the stock leaf that are saggin and then put a leaf pack with a 3" lift but with a little compression because of the cap, I think I may come really close to what I have now, or maybe a little higher, wich would be great. I always try to avoid to strech the suspension too much because I know I don't have a great setup for it. As you said, aal lose their stiffness after a time, saw it a few time on my dad's old power ram lol Will try to avoid that...

According to rancho's website, my shocks are 14.05" fully compressed and 22.43" fully extended, wich give me 8.38" of travel. so having them at 19" at rest, I do have 3.43" for extension. If my stock shocks were good with my actual bumpstop, those may be ok too since I replaced the billies for an equivalent... but may be wrong. I wish I knew more about suspension before changing them lol

Do you guys know a great place to order leafs packs for Canada? having a price in CAD would be great to make a budget and then decide if I take the leaf pack or the atv tires first lol... Adults toys are expensive!

This is how to determine what your shock length should be, its a pretty good read. As far as Dakars, the only time people complain about a rough ride is because they are driving with no weight in the back. you have a cap so you would be good to go. but I will try to find the post I saw about someone asking about leaf packs in Canada haha

Cant say that I have, but being up in Ottawa the drive down to buffalo is out of the question haha I'm sure there are some similar locations I could use closer to me but honestly by the time I travel across the border which would be about an hour-ish drive there, then back again, I would rather just pay to have it brought to my door.

few that would be a drive and a half just to grab a part haha wonder if those locations would be willing to ship any items to my door. if so it may be cheaper in that aspect, but if not, the gas to drive there and back, depending on the cost of said item, may not be worth it for me haha but worth looking into for any future purchases so thank you for sharing

There is 4wheel part in montreal that could be interesting. If you go on a trip someday you can stop by and have a look and maybe discuss about price/deal for you ;)

Edit: this is my 1000th post... told myself I shoulf start a build thread to keep track of the things I do when I hit 1000... will consider this since winter is not the time for mods I have time to write lol

hahaha happy 1000th post! build threads are always cool, I'm no where near thinking of starting one, all my mods are just small typical mods, nothing major yet. hood struts, independent fuse panel for accessories, cheap little OBA system that I managed to fit into the long storage bin of the bed, pumps up my stock tires tho. LED map/dome/licence plate. I keep forgetting to take before and after pics tho hahaha I always think, I need to take pics and document, then next thing you know I'm admiring my work going, shit forgot to take pics haha

Always like that for me too lol that's why i would make a build thread, i would have a good reason to think about taking pics and document

you do have a valid point there sir. I'm going to try to put together a bit of a folder with pics of upgrades from now on so when I do get a round to doing a build thread a will at least have a decent amount to add right from the get go
