"New" Tacoma finally!

Okay, took delivery of my "new" 2000 Tacoma; SR5 V-6, auto, xtra cab, 4x4, 91k miles. Couple of questions and/or observations:

1. The trans dipstick is really tough to get to seat all the way; has what looks like a bend at the very tip that looks factory???
2. I'll take it in soon for the timing belt change; is it advisable to change the water pump and whatever else is there at the same time?
3. Didn't see a trans cooler; are they needed for little to no towing duties (we do have some slow traffic issues in warmer temps---Hawaii)?
4. Springs/shocks making squeeking noises when rocking the truck back & forth; would this indicate needing new bushings? The shocks seem warn out so I'm gonna replace those myself.

Any other tips/advice?

Change the water pump and all the seals when you do the timing belt.

 

X2 on advising you to have the water pump and seals redone 'while you're in there'.

Transmission oil coolers were stock only on Tacomas with the optional Tow Package.

and you checked for frame rust right?

 

I'll post pics when I figure it out! Yep, thanks to this forum I was educated on the rust issue; no frame rust or any other for that matter. Put in a K&N filter; will upgrading the air intake otherwise help power & mpg?

Congrats on the "new" truck.

 

A CAI doesn't really do much for power or MPG. Just put in a good drop in filter and save yourself 2-3 hundred bucks
