    I'm shopping right now for some transmission filter kits (Gasket and filter) and I am finding the prices are all over the map ranging anywhere from $13 to $90. Just curious what others have used and what they paid for a kit that fits a 1st Gen 3.4 4x4 automatic? Im not really interested with buying OEM just want an aftermarket kit that fits correctly and doesn't cost $90. what say you?

    There's no filter, per say. There's a mesh screen, which doesn't even really need cleaned in my experience. If you remove the pan, you'll notice the screen is probalby clean of debris. The magnets will have metal "goo" all over them though. Clean them off and reinstall pan. Drain a fill trans fluid over the next few oil changes. That's really all you can do.

    That makes wonder, $90 for a glorified screen?! how do they get that figure? thanks for the input by the way.

    When factory price is high, my 2nd choice is always Wix. Have been using them for many years on all sorts of cars and never had an issue and they do make a nice product.

    fit fine, no problems at all. I did let it drip for an hour to get as much of the old fluid as I could, but that's up to you.

    I decided to remove and replace. I bought OEM, It wasn't much. I wasn't expecting to see the screen/strainer in there. It was totally clean after 120k mi. I mean spotless...

    I cleaned the magnets and replaced the pan. Underwhelming...

    I got a filter from NAPA store and it cost around $30 or so. The gasket fit good and everything. It looks like the wix gasket, which I've heard, but don't know for sure, that wix makes napa filters. Only thing I'll say is that after about 10k miles or so, the out side edge of gasket is dry cracked but no leaks. U might wanna still do FIPG to seal it, it's up to u.
