I'm in the middle of installing my factory roof rack now. For this step are they referring to these towards the very front? 20170124_104114.jpg 20170124_104047.jpg

How hard was the trim to remove? Do you think its possible to reinsert if the clips aren't broken? Also do you think you can remove the trim starting from the front? I only want to grab the front two bolt holes for a light bar and cant find any info on it. Thank you.

To answer my question yes those are the ditch clips that I had pictured. I had to cut them with an exacto knife. The trim was very easy to remove. I'm pretty sure I could put the trim back on even though I cut off the ditch clips just using some double-sided tape if I ever wanted to remove the roof rack and put them back on.

If I wanted to uninstall my factory roof rack would there be any potential issues in doing so?

Make sure you seal the bolt holes, otherwise water will pour in during rain or washes.

So this weekend I finally got around to installing my new OEM roof racks on my 2nd Gen (updated model PT 278-35140 that fits 2nd & 3rd Gens). Has anybody else noticed that the Passenger side crossbar appears to be a different shape (almost like it's bent at an angle) compared to the Driver's side which has more of an arc to its shape?

The install went great and I love the look, but I've noticed after looking through a other of pics here that the 2nd Gens appear to be the same shape on both sides and the 3rd Gens seems to look like mine...just curious if anyone else noticed and if it's maybe a design difference between the old model (PT 278-35130) and the new model (PT 278-35140)?

Here's a pic where you can see the "bend" I'm talking about on my 2009...

Here's a few pics where you see it on 3rd Gens (borrowed from other TW members)...

But I do love the clean look when they're stowed!!!

Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead but I think that's just an optical illusion. The driver's side looks like it has a bend when you're angling the truck in that direction.

Anyone else out there running an ARB roof rack? I am considering ordering one soon but I would love to see it in person or hear about how they like/dislike it

So the load on the oem rack is stated to be 100lb. However that must be the dynamic load rating, i.e the load when the vehicle is moving. Static load capacity is often much more, and the dynamic load is quoted because that is usually the limiting factor. For example Yakima crossbars have a dynamic load rating if 150lbs. But if you call Yakima up they tell you the static load is 500lbs. Which is an ideal scenario for a small roof top tent. I’m therefore wondering about the static load capacity of the oem rack which I’m sure must be quite a bit more than 100lbs to,support a dynamic load if 100lbs.
