And yea I've been researching the crap out of most trucks and suv's that are good beach vehicles for the past few months. I've always liked tacomas a lot. It only helps that they seem to be one of the most reliable vehicles out there.

if you can find a TRD OR you get the locker which comes in very handy in any offroad situation

Will do, only gave a quick check with my flashlight the other day when I checked them out in person. May go to the dealer and throw some numbers around tomorrow. Will give a better look.

If I understand correctly, the frame is covered under warranty for 12 years since the sale date, right?

That would be nice. There is some deep soft sand in spots. I've seen some very capable vehicles buried to the frame.

unfortunately there does not seem to be much available in my price range in my area. Seems that most are 25-30k and I was aiming to be more towards 20k.

For me, a big factor would also be how well it was maintained. Can they produce any service records for either vehicle? I have an 09 TRD OR and love it...Any suspension work you may have to do is not bad at all just by using posts from other TW members here. If it was maintained properly, either rig will last a LONG time. If all things are equal, I'd lean toward the TRD Sport. Also helps with future resale...and I love my TRD seats. Really comfy on long hauls.

    Good luck!

Thats a good point. TRD sport carfax looks pretty good, first owner had the oil changed every 5,000 at the dealership it is for sale at. 2nd owner only had it for 9 months, but there is no service records.

SR5 carfax isnt free for some reason, but ill ask the dealership to show it to me.

I'd go for the TRD Sport. I did (2009) and I'm happy with my choice. It came with the SR5 package as well as the tow package. You also get a power outlet in the bed with the sport package. Also I'm not sure if all tacos come with the JBL sound system but mine did.

I think the TRDs get better seats too.

Yep, if you can get service records that would help. My 09 has about 90,000 on it and I like to think I keep it properly maintained. I definitely don't abuse it but already it's needed new wheel bearings in the front and a new carrier bearing and all 3 u joints replaced. If none of that's been done to either I'd definitely plan on budgeting the money for all those because it'll need it sooner or later, probably sooner.

TRD Sport is my vote. For no other reason than they have those sweet hood scoops.

I mean, sure it's not functional, but it's a hood scoop.

Correct me if im wrong but doesn't the TRD Sport have 17" wheels vs 16" wheels on the SR5?

Any other maintenance that will have to be done soon. I remember my subaru had a very big service at 90k where pretty much all fluids were replaced. Does the tacoma have a big 90k service as well?
