I've seen this issue now on a few threads, and the bypass kit I've seen linked is up to '12. Does anyone already have a bypass kit for a '13 and up 2nd gen?

That only goes so far, my scan gauge is always in the truck and that's what I used the first time I went into limp mode but once I hit the gas it would put me in limp mode again. It was pretty much useless and the truck was pretty undrivable as well.

    Yeah, I understand.

Bad pumps put you in limp mode, bad valves just turn on the check engine light.

No one is gonna argue, the system is stupid.

I'm just waiting for the day someone gets killed because the truck went into limp mode when they needed to accelerate ASAP.

I'm actually surprised I haven't heard of this happening yet.

Replaced my diverter valve today...So far so good...Wasn't any moisture or gunk anywhere in the hoses or valve or pump...Pump looked brand new inside...Did put a small air filter on the inlet to the pump...The filter inside the pump looked fine... Impeller turned freely and looked clean....The valves looked a little rusty looking inside. Nothing major. So far just one cold start. No lights. I'll try again in a few hours. It's below freezing here. Took about 3 hours total with a few breaks for lunch and leave penetrating oil to do its job. $437 my price vs Toyota's $867 I'll take it.

The more I refer back to this thread the more I think getting the block of kit is a good idea.

only problem is they do not stand behind 100% of their product, and some members here have problem with it. that makes me take one step back.

I got the kit and installed it in less than 2 hours. I made sure to clear the codes, and disconnect the battery before even starting the project, and it's been running for a month with no issues yet.

I've already filed a complaint with Toyota, and have a claim number, as well as the NHTSA. I just wanted to keep the truck drivable until something is figured out Warranty or recall wise.

My 12 dclb just did it yesterday too. Engine light, limp mode, ect. Almost got hit trting to get home. Pump is working fine so opened up the valves to find a ton of moisture and the rubber around the valve is all but gone. Mine runs after shutdown too so its of no help as far as evacuation. I cleaned them up, ditched the foam and put a uni filter on it. Erased the codes and so far so good. I will try the kit as soon as I can order which wont be till mon. I dont usually use profanity on a public place like this but... THIS IS F'N BULLSHIT, I'M PISSED OFF!!!

yours a 2012? I have yet to come across a 12' truck that runs pump after engine is shutdown, that was started in 13-up trucks from my understanding.

You guys have early model or late model 12's? Mine is an early model and doesn't run at all upon shutdown, my dads 2013 does and my aunts 2014 do. That's why I was thinking they have corrected the issue 13'up with a software change.

My 2012 was built July 2012 and doesn't run at shutdown. Unless it's cold started and immediately shutdown. Only for a couple seconds.

As far as I know all of the 12's do it. I know 2 people with 13's and both of their trucks do it at start up and shut down.

I did the quick uni filter mod last night. Planning on doing the Hewitt kit once I get my tax return.

    :notsure:
Build date of March 2012 and mine does not run at shutdown. I am with the same line of thinking this change wasn't made until the 2013 model...doesn't mean it isn't so I guess :notsure:

Ya mine runs after shutdown when its running and then shutoff. If it isn't running when I shut off the engine then it doesn't do anything. There was a lot of moisture when I opened up the valves. Bank two was in a lot worse shape then bank 1. The cheapest I could find new ones was 198 and replaced that chunk of foam with a uni breather. Luckily the pump is fine so cleared the codes after replacing valves and its running good. That should buy me time to get the bypass ordered. Couldn't believe that I had this much of a hassle with a truck that only has 53k on it. Wth?!

Mine only made it to 53k as well. Seems like almost majority is getting this failure around 50-60k with some lower and higher mileage. So I guess at 106k we might as well order another set and swap them out. My bank 2 was also in a lot worse shape as well.

Brand new to this forum, not a mechanic by any means. I just rolled 99000 and p2442 just came up Friday. Ive been reading through most of this thread to see if Toyota might end up doing an automatic goodwill warranty and it's not looking like it even if they were my years and miles are sure to be disqualifying! So do I pay Toyota to fix? Is this something a novice can do? If so anyone have some links to videos/ how to its?
