New Nissan Frontier

My neighbor just bought an 08 Frontier.

I had a 85 Nissan "Hardbody" model & it was great, and have nothing against Frontiers.

Having said that...WTF??? The Tacoma has them covered in EVERY catagory. They're not even remotely attractive.

I do not agree with the outcome of Edmonds Decision, Nissan Frontiers do not rule, but good info for anyone who wants to see a comparison. (IMO, i don't like the Frontier its fugley and i like my 6ft bed)

My buddy bought one about two weeks before I bought mine. The total price was almost identical (within $250) but I got the regular cab 4x4 and he got the equivalent of an access cab 4x4 with a V6. Effectively he was willing to take the risk of lower quality etc. for a better deal than if he had bought a Toyota. I think the Nissan is a nice truck but my loyalty is with Toyota.

 

My dad has got a Nissan Frontier DC. After I got my Tacoma he wanted to trade his Nissan for a Tacoma. The Tacoma itself is so much more refined than the Nissan. The interior seems cheaply made with all plastics. The price difference will tell it all. You get what you pay for.

Interesting how it had more power while towing, was better in the sand, and felt more stable than the Nissan yet the Nissan somehow was better.

 

The frontier has 4 wheel disc brakes. That's the only advantage that Nissan has. And I'm not really sure if it's an advantage. I'm not sure if the frontier has shorter stop distance.

 

Yep that was odd. Nissan probably paid them to score the Frontier as their choice because they knew they cant beat a Tacoma in much of anything. Oh well Its just a reporters opinion.

 

Does anybody have a link to the edmunds report? I'm guessing they took cost in consideration. Otherwise there is no way the frontier wins. Frontier is significantly cheaper then the taco. Out the door price will usually be several thousand dollars cheaper then similarly equipped taco. Dealers have all sorts of incentives to sell the frontier. The taco pretty much sells itself.

I test drove both last year. Each has its pros and cons. I have to admit I was considering the Frontier because of the price. I could only get a decent Access Cab TRD Taco for what I cold get a loaded Nismo Double for. The frontier looks really good on paper. The VQ is a great engine with good power/sound and the frame is fully boxed. I drove both in the V6 Double Cab setups, and primarily noticed how each drove on the road. The Frontier drives like an SUV and the Taco feels like a full-size, IMO. If I were looking for something to just tow and drive down the road I think the Frontier wins. But you guys are right, quality, off-roadability and overall fun factor is where the Taco wins. You can get the Double cab frontier with a long bed now though. However, you can't get a 4 cyl with 4X4 on the Frontier. So I am happy with what I got. Tacoma 4cyl, 4X4, 5 spd, regular cab, standard bed - Fuel economy, practicality, and fun in the best package!

 

Yeah... I don't understand the report... They kept saying that the Toyota was better, over and over, yet in the end they picked Nissan.

 

I pretty much did and noticed the same things, but the ride quality felt similar (I compared the Access TRD to the NISMO King... why can't everyone just call it a crew cab and then have the large one be the king??). The Frontier may have had more horse, but I don't think I noticed. The NISMO seats are great, and I loved the black interior. Back seats had headrests and were better quality were comfier. Bed was factory line-x, and the tie-down cleats had rails in the bottom of the bed too. However, the Frontier rear seat area is TINY, the storage is very cheap plastic, and the instrument panel was crowded. Tacoma engine is also far less complicated. A Frontier Crew cab (basically what we'd call a DC) looked way too SUV.

All said and done, I'm not going to give any Frontier owner a bad time (provided they don't stick me in the back), but I felt like I chose the better path.

 

I don't get it. In each categorie it seemed like they liked the Tacoma better but the Nissan wins??????

 

I think its a conspiracy, everybody knows the tacoma won that. I think well all know that nissan "stroked" Edmouds "ego" and by "stroked" i mean sucked and by "ego" i mean dick.

 

hahaha! wow, did not see that coming. The nissan scored better in like one of all of the tests yet wins the overall competition?!

 

I went from an '05 Altima 3.5SE to the Tacoma and the Frontier wasn't even a consideration. Sure, I drove one but I didn't like it and my experience with Nissan was less than satisfactory. To steal a page from BulletToothTony, by less than satisfactory, I mean it was a POS.

 

I will NEVER own another Nissan product because of that VQ engine. I am in the process of TRYING to dump a 2001 Pathfinder with the 3.5. I have had nothing but MISERY with that truck/motor. Over $1000.00 in sensors replaced, HORRIBLE on fuel and now I am having valve issues and it is burning a TON of oil. Never again....

its all about the greenbacks,people will say what ever you want them to say for enough money,toyota wins all the comparisons but yet nissan wins.
