Using Crawl Control ended up costing me $1100 in broken parts.

Maybe letting them Proto type some guard you maybe get a sap out of them for a better deal or nothing . Seems to be an untapped market, I never thought you would have to worry about that controller getting damaged.

Up to the frame rails just like in the infomercial. Yes, I tried to turn the wheels back and forth to help it after it didin't get anywhere. That probably did make the shoveling effect worse. Plus I have BFG AT KO2's on that have a lot more/deeper thread than the stock tires in the infomercials...

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
I love the fact that manufactures show "how tough" their trucks are, but then say not to use it like that. I'v had similar problems in the past with Dodge. Had a 2000 1/2 ton that was constantly in the shop. We would argue what was covered by the warranty and what wasn't. One day the shop manager says to me (after trying to blame the suspension breaking on the tires I put on it) "it's only a truck, be gentle with it". Three weeks later I had a Ford.

we have that trouble a lot, we tend to 'use' our equipment to the literal breaking point. We run a small family farm and had an '88 F-350 with duals and a flatbed. Hooked her up to a 20' gooseneck and took a load of logs to the sawmill. My dad being him, wanted to make the most of one trip and loaded it to the hilt. The yard master quoted 'I've seen less on road tractors'. The truck that was rated for 4,000 some odd pounds, sold 8 ton of lumber that trip...

Is that the plastic box hanging off the transmission? I glanced at mine when I got it and said that thing is ready to break off.

no, it's above the skid plate attached to the front diff. The other side that doesn't show has a fork on it.

I would agree with that. I don't really do any thing "hard core", but I do spend a lot of time on gravel roads due to my job. The Dodge just had issues and the manager blaming my tiers and say it is only a truck was the last straw. That was after I paid to upgrade the shocks and springs to their "severe duty" line. The dodge only had 26,000 on it when I got rid of it.

to dad...those are 'suggestions', he was a strip mine mechanic from 1976-1995. To him it's good till it breaks. When he loads a trailer, he goes till the overloads on the truck touch the stops or else 'the necks too light'.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. But, thanks for posting. You have skid plates - do you think you would have broken the line if you did not have skid plates?

no, because it broke due to the force of sand packed between the skids and the truck. but I will keep my skids. Just have to be more careful in sand and use the winch sooner.

Crawl control didn't break your truck, you did. You got the truck stuck in enough deep sand to the point that it forced into places that it doesn't normally go and you broke a vacuum line off an actuator trying to get it out. That's hardly normal service and why Toyota declined your claim. You really do have to pay to play once you start modding and taking a vehicle off road.

agreed, as long as you can stop it no problem. Our current rig, a '99 550 is rated a lot higher but...he's calmed down in his old age. We limit out around 7 ton now. As for speed, hard to get any with a 4.83 in the back. 65 downhill at 3,000...

Just my opinion but, find a new dealer. Bunch of A**holes. They could have covered that under warranty.

Why are they assholes and why should they have covered it under warranty?

Truck comes in packed full of sand between the diff and the skids...no way Toyota corporate would approve that warranty work.

Maybe so, but Toyota/Lexus has a history of denying claims that are their fault/bad design.

Where exactly is the part that broke located? I find it hard to believe that the "force of the sand" damaged the part, especially with a full set of skids. There are only a couple areas where sand could actually get in, and "force" a part to break. To accumulate that much sand to inflict a decent amount of force, it would have to be dragged a long ways to build up the level that high to exert force.
