Having owned a jeep or 2... and this my first Taco... going with Taco. Well never got a Jeep stuck in the sand per se... but did overheat the transfer case in the sand and lockdown... middle of no where. Had to get a tow truck to take a ferry ride to island we got stuck on.. Ocracoke Island, ouch and 500 miles from home.

It's a truck using it for what it was made to do... and break shit... expected.

Well heaven forbid you use a feature on a truck for when you get stuck. I think it's bs you had to pay for that part. I also understand "pay to play". I have also noticed Manufacturer's notices in the small print on how they have these features available to use, but they don't warranty them. That could be a design flaw on that part.

So why are upset Toyota isnt taking liability when 1,3,4 all refer back to #1? Any and all liabilty falls on you, whether you were using a feature of the truck or not. You have no specific evidence that says what your title says of using CC broke the part. On the contrary, what you were describing is that you may have gotten too deep in sand and it broke the part. Using CC didnt specifically cause it. You being too deep in packed sand caused it.

I did - I feel that I would not have broken the part if it wasn't for the CC. Like I said if it was me w/o CC trying to get out, when I saw I wasn't getting anywhere within a few seconds of the tires spinning I would have hooked up the winch. Thus probably not building up the amount of sand to brake the plastic nipple.

    Rule of thumb when wheeling:

Never go wheeling farther away from home than you have CASH in pocket to get yourself back home.

Lesson I learned ... the hard way.

Pretty much every manufacturer that shows their vehicle in motion during a commercial has the "professional driver on closed course, do not attempt" disclaimer:rofl:

    What a fun truck!
Open a complaint with Toyota. They will take care of you. Or at least send you a gift card. I would also send an email to all the review guys on youtube that say crawl control is the best. Maybe they will vouch for you in your case against Toyota as well.

Plus, I wouldn't be content with the dealership being the face of Toyota. Dealerships are definitely not the only means of communication with Toyota.

Seems there is another side of this story here. Any pics of the location or how the truck looked stuck?

^^ This. give corporate a call. give em hell. what do you have to lose? when in doubt use the catchphrase "may I speak with your manager" be patient too. youll be put on hold for a looong time, just to have them come back and say something like oh he'll be busy for a little while longer, can we call you back? say, nah I can hold. grab a beer, put the phone on speaker and turn on the tv. wait them out. be more hardheaded than they want to deal with and they'll likely cave.

It sucks this happened and you had to pay for it. You should have had to pay for the plastic cover not the whole actuator assembly. Beyond that Thank You so much for pointing out the weak spot. Just the weight of that vacuum line bouncing around could break that weak ass design. I doubt you are the first nor will be that last to have this problem. I wonder if you plugged that vacuum line if the truck would have allowed to shift the transfer case into 2wd instead of being stuck in 4 low? Sure the front axle would be stuck in gauged unless there is a fail safe to disengage the front axle. My only regrets with the 2016 is the lack of solid lever engagement for the transfer case.

Yeah, force Toyota to build the cost of his actuator in the purchase price of the next Toyota vehicle you buy...that will show them... I don't want to have to pay for other people's mistakes.

This is the same design as the second gen and I'm not aware of any epidemic of broken actuators....

At least Toyota was willing to help. If it was an American mfg, they would have told you to pound sand.

The manual tells you to do it. So you do it. And Toyota fixes it. Don't settle for less.

I'm over it. $1100 is not going to break me, like they said - pay to play. Just warning to others and see if anyone wants to develop protection for the plastic nipple. I'm out.
