The demo videos had the OEM skid plate. All the Toyota demo videos (that I've seen) had the truck backing out, not plowing forward.

But either way, there are owner videos on youtube of guys buried to the frame rails that plowed forward and didn't have this happen.

So maybe you should get off your soapbox, quit being so jaded, and open yourself to the idea that perhaps there were other factors that contributed to this that weren't Toyota's fault.

I absolutely feel for the OP and it sucks that he had to pay OOP but I'm willing to bet money that the design of his aftermarket skid plate contributed to the amount of sand that was able to get around the diff components

would anyone think that if he had a oem skid plate that this would still happen? oem skid plate seems to not have any holes whatsoever..

i very well could be that the skid plate that the OP had contributed alot to that part breaking.

Yeah, there are always other factors compared to the factory usage commercials. Get off your soap box now and move on...like I did in my last post. Funny how people do what they tell others not too..........more jadeage needing your attention in many other posts.

    my 2 cents

if you were actually trying to go somewhere, things got tight and tricky and you go careful,
and got stuck you'd find crawl control is gonna work fine and the truck won't let you down

if you are intentionally playing around and in sand for playtime and beating on the truck, pay-to-play as was said earlier

you are going hunting or off-road to get somewhere and the truck is taking you there, you see a mud hole or quicksand
or anything else ...you don't bomb through willy nilly, you check it out and go careful, trucky will be fine. you bomb around
and disregard certain things, shits gonna bust

this sounds like playtime, so yup, sensitive shits gonna bust

    and yeah ....partially design fail...
2017 is not like late 90's where things are higher and tucked up better

my 99 4runner lowest point is 11.5 inches off ground stock suspension stock tires
nothing ever broke down there and I beat the living shit out of it scraped up everything on rocks, mud and sand
all that broke were rear axle bearings (ground to stinky muddy dust from the mung)

Is it just me or does that truck have the spare tire on the right front? I was all for the OP but... I'm seeing that there may have been more damage than just getting stuck? (or maybe its an optical illusion?)

Sorry for the OP, you seem to be taking it well enough though I don't think it should be covered under those circumstances.

    Remember this commercial?

Ok, I'm trying to page through all the crap in this thread.

To summarize what we know so far:

    1. OP got stuck in sand at beach
    2. OP used crawl control to get unstuck
    3. The vacuum actuator on the front differential was broken off
    4. OP got towed to dealer
    5. Dealer told OP to pound sand

Other points to note. Spare tire on front passengers side and the possibility of an aftermarket skid plate?

What am I missing here? Toyota has demonstrated crawl control in the sand at numerous press events (quick google search proves that).

Number 3 is an electrical actuator with an air vent that broke off.
why wouldn't the truck get out of low range which is the issue it was towed in for. I am guessing that sand inside the actuator from the broken vent?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a vacuum actuator that relies on engine vacuum to move the shift fork? I didn't think that this was just a simple vent
