ahh I see. I only knew they had to be cut on 4x4 so I never really looked any further into them. I do love their look when set up properly (my personal view of proper)

 

It really amazes me that some of you are willing to cut a cross member on a brand new truck, but would not consider cutting sheet metal instead around the tub and/or inside the fenders, which is cheaper and far less invasive than cutting a cross member; and still allows you to fit 35"s for a fraction of the cost of a drop bracket lift.

I tell you what, not sure if any companies offer them yet for these trucks, but fiberglass fenders would be another great way to fit 35"s

I remember helping a friend install one of those drop bracket lifts. Man, that's a big project. Not rocket science; but it takes some time for sure.

I will say the trucks do look very nice after everything is said and done with these types of lift.

@1999RegCab I plan to cut the body and cab mount as well. My plan is to run 37's and have the cv angles near 0*. I do more trails, rocks and curbs at the mall, and like the additional ground and belly clearance. When the stock trucks are lifted 4" there isn't much down travel, only up, and I wanted to have both.

It wasn't easy cutting and notching the frame on a truck where the factory welds haven't even cooled yet. But, I have a 24k SR, not a 40k Pro.

Toyota dealers are selling 60k+ Tundras with 6" lifts, and sure enough,12" cut out of the main crossmember

 

Sounds like you have a great plan. Personally, what you are doing is what I would do too.

And yes, dealerships get greedy when they sell you trucks with the drop bracket lifts already installed. The markup is extreme, But that's the only way they will warrantee such lifts.

 

So how high can you lift before you need to drop the differential, seems to defeat the purpose of a lift if for offroad purposes.

 

hence the reason why drop bracket lifts are not many people's cup of tea.

They give trucks a great stance; like the OPs truck.

So how high can you go, I'm guessing 3" needs a drop?

I'd also assume that 2" does not need a drop at least I didn't notice the drop in a bp51 ome kit.

 

I really don't know. It has been a while since i messed with IFS stuff. Last time I did anything with IFS was several years back when I installed IVD Coilovers. They were cranked at 2.5ish inches of lift. Nothing had to be dropped, but CV angles change quite a bit. I did not affect me cause my tacoma had manual locking hubs

 

Can you not buy a replacement cross member if you want to reverse the lift?

 

Yes you can get a factory cross member.
