Guys according to APRS they aren't even to Brady's yet.

I'll try messaging them VIA APRS though.

APRS is a HAM radio service and you need a license to do it. It is well worth learning how to use it and easy to get the license. What i just did is where text messaging came from. Hopefully they have the rig equipment to respond and that their stuff is working. I'll know soon enough.

4/7 attempts made on the messages..haven't gone through yet. Should easily. He had lots of digipeaters in the area. His last packet was at 3:00 though.

@dtaco06 Go to www.aprs.fi, punch in his call sign KK6TWX-9 it'll bring up his last reported location. On the right is this menu list, click "Messages":

    Step 1.jpg

Then you can view messages licensed users have sent out. I cropped @Blackdawg to protect the innocent :anonymous:

its cool when it works. I have no idea what kind of setup he has so he may not be able to see messages..I've talked to my Dad like this when out of country lots though.

Where they're going I doubt there is going to be any sort of repeaters as it's a National Park. Maybe some in the Inyo Mountains or a bit north, but down in Saline Valley or Eureka Valley is going to be limited.

He is 4 miles from a digipeater. Well within range. Multiple stations in the area.

The hot springs has radio contact with the park HQ, but I don't know what they use, and my trucks location doesn't have LOS with the hot springs.

At their last location - absolutely. But I don't think they're in that area anymore.

I tried to hit the few repeaters in the area that from a list of pertinent radio frequencies for the Death Valley region. There isn't that many to begin with.

you under estimate the power of 2m radio..

But yes. in valley and such. Again, if they have a nice radio and good antenna tune and something that can see my messages. Should be able to reach them.

The fact im not able to. Means more then likely their rigs aren't on or can't see my messages. The fact that his position hasn't updated in a while though suggests they are stopped or the radio died.

yea. who knows where they are now. Should have had more packets get through though from where they last were. Which is odd.
