I recently installed image dynamics components/coaxials that I'm powering with a clarion amp. I also got a image dynamics IDQ10 that's 500 watts rms and a sealed box from taco tunes. I'm trying to decide between the JL Audio RD500/1 and Rockford Fosgate 500/1 mono amps. The Rockford amp is about $200 cheaper but I believe you get what you pay for. So what do you guys think? Is the JL Audio amp that much better? Will there be a noticeable audible difference between the two?
    Thanks

I've never used Rockford. I've had 3 JL amps in my time and IMO they are the absolute best amps out there.

That being said, I'm sure the Rockford would be fine as they have been around for a loooooong time. $200 is a huge difference for essentially the same amp.

Can't go wrong with JL. I've had both. Rockford hits hard and so does JL. But the clarity in JL is above Rockford easily. They have always been noted as underrated or "true rms wattage"

Thanks for the responses guys. I don't mind paying more for good quality. The Rockford amp has like 50+ 5 star reviews on crutchfield so I'm sure it's a good amp. I just wanna do it right and be done the first time. I recently bought a kicker powered sub and was completely unimpressed so I sent it back and bought the IDQ10 sub instead. Don't want the same thing to happen with the amp.

Let me know what you end up going with. Have you check local craigslist adds and ebay? If there is no rush I would check out their SLASH amps. 500/1v2, now they have a 600/1v3. But at the end of the day the decision is ultimately yours. Heard the HD750/1 is a banger too.

Nice amps, but inefficient. Current class D designs use far less juice, generate less heat and take up less space.

I haven't checked craigslist or Ebay but I may check it out. I did look up those amps you suggested and WOW! I know I said I didn't mind paying a little more for good quality but damn, I don't wanna get a second job just to buy an amp.
Seriously tho, the HD and Slash series are a little more than I wanna spend. I'll let you know what I end up with. Leaning towards the RD or even the JX which is on sale for $100 off on crutchfield right now for the 500 watt

Yes with technology constantly growing it's expected but those are still some of their best amps that made JL what it is

That video has me leaning towards that amp. That way I can use the extra money on a decent 4 channel for the door speakers which are also image dynamics rated at 100 watts rms each

I would go with with Rockford fosgate .they are always underrated .i had a punch p1000-1bd that did close to 1200.jl's are nice too but it's more hype then anything.most of the time you can find good deals on used amps on craigslist .i just purchased a punch p700-1bd for under 100$.

Sounds like a plan. There was a video I saw at work earlier today about it. It's not a bad choice it'll push.
