I think you need to have it inspected otherwise you won't be eligible for the frame replacement if you do need it down the road.

I'm confused. Is your boss renting a room in your next door neighbor's house?

I got a post card from lawyers about the frame settlement for my 2009. No rust here in W. Washington but I'm taking it in for inspection just cause. Hopefully even a dealer can do that without screwing something up. I still have to get my spring replaced on the recall but they aren't broken yet and aren't very mashed down.

Charlie, you may not want to sell your truck, but in reality, EVERYTHING is for sale.

The only reason I have a silver truck is because that's what was on the lot, and it was the cheaper of the only two new 2WDs on the lot.

My dad has NEVER ordered a vehicle, only purchased off the lot. He believed he couldn't get as good a deal if he ordered. The first time I laid eyes on what would eventually become my truck, it was parked next to a LOADED Barcelona Red access cab SR5 auto with a tan cloth interior, and that's the one I wanted. However, the sticker on the red one was almost $24,000 if I remember correctly. Parked next to it was my truck, with a sticker of like $17,800. My dad highly doubted he could do much negotiating on a new Tacoma, especially next year's model. We had a well-maintained 1996 Pathfinder SE about 113K miles as a trade, and they only wanted to give us $1,500. My dad got them up to $2,300, and after negotiating a bit more we left that night with a new Tacoma for like $14,900! My dad has perfect credit and is very good about saving money, but his philosophy is that it's better to finance a vehicle than pay cash if you can get a really low interest rate. He got less than 1% interest on his 2013 Pilot. He wound up paying it off probably a year early and eventually put the title in my name.

I really had my heart set on that red access cab, but I kinda like the regular cabs better, and looking back on it the silver is a bit easier on the eyes than red.

Nothing wrong with what you got there, besides single cabs are now collector's items. Sounds like your dad has his head screwed on tight. Hey if you want to sell that thing let me know

When I picked up my Taco from Butch's last month after my most recent fender bender, there was a brand new $50,000+ Ford F150 Lariat (one of the new aluminum ones) sitting outside the shop. All side curtain airbags were deployed (not the driver and front passenger) but there was no body damage at all. Butch told me that the owner hit a pothole or something, and the rollover sensors malfunctioned somehow, thinking the truck was flipping and deploying the bags. The right rear tire blew but there was not damage to the truck. The owner changed the flat tire and cut away the airbags so he could see out the window, and drove it to Butch's. According to Butch, insurance estimated $4,000 for parts and labor to replace the airbags. The truck is so new worth so much money that the insurance company obviously did not total it.

I've heard of similar stories of this happening and even saw a video of a newer Camaro's curtain bags going off because the driver was drifting aggressively and the sensors thought the car was gonna flip.

Also, just out of curiosity I asked Butch if my truck would be totaled if I had a minor accident with airbag deployment (I'm honestly surprised the driver's airbag didn't go off when I rear-ended the Mustang back in August 2015). He said that a driver's airbag for my truck would be like $600 plus tax, parts, and labor, and if the damage was minor like a deer strike or something, my truck would most likely not be totaled. He also told me that Taco could sustain something like $8,000 in damage before most insurance companies would write it off based on how much it was worth at the time. Unfortunately, he said that curtain airbag deployment would be an automatic total loss regardless of the severity of the damage because my truck is almost 8 years old and is worth like $12,000. Glad to know that if my Tacoma gets severe body damage with no airbag deployment, it can go up to eight grand before the insurance company totals it!

If God forbid my truck was badly damaged enough to be totaled, I'd probably buy it back, fix it, and put it back on the road. Exceptions for me would be flood damage, structural damage, or fire damage... Other than I'd get it fixed as long as the frame wasn't bent...

Even if I became a billionaire tomorrow, I wouldn't sell it! Honestly if I won the lottery I'd buy a new Winnebago Class A motorhome, pulled the Tacoma behind the RV, and travel the United States and Canada.

some of this, a little of that
there was a thread on here not too long ago and the driver said she was just going down a dirt road and all the airbags went off on her Tacoma I guess it happens sometimes. I'm pretty sure that was on here...

If someone seriously offered you $75k for your truck, I can say with full confidence that you'd sell it on the spot.

Back in like 2007-2008, the daughter of one of my high school teachers had something like that happen in a 2003 Mini Cooper. Daughter went off the road, both right tires blew, and the passenger seat airbag went. Daughter was shaken but not injured. Car was not totaled but the entire seat had to be replaced at cost of like two grand. About a month after the Mini got out of the shop for that, a Saturn ran a stop sign and the daughter smashed right into it. Both Mini and Saturn were totaled but nobody got hurt. I think that car may have been cursed...

Yeah, then I'd buy a new Silverado Z71 and another 2010 Tacoma! But nobody is gonna offer me $75,000 for a Tacoma in this lifetime...

BTW there had been another regular cab 2WD exactly like mine but in white the first time we went to that dealer. By the time we made up our mind to get a Tacoma and went back to the dealer, the white one was gone. I would have been happy with the white one if that's what was available, but I'm glad I got silver.
