    So has anyone ever seen a stock spindle shear? I know I've seen reports of then bending to different degrees, but has anyone sheared a stock second gen spindle?

    Still a PITA that they'll have to trek out, pick up OP, then drive right back in to shuttle him to the fixed rig.

    Yeah about the only thing I can think of is they underestimated transit time to the truck. They have to drive over the pass, drive through eureka valley, cross Dedeckera Canyon, and it's still many miles south. Easily 90min 1 way.

    I've seen them bend, but these two cases are the only I've seen sheer off like that.

    When I welded mine, I preheated the entire spindle with a torch and welded them all in one shot. Heating - Cooling - Heating - Cooling doesn't sound like it's doing the metal any favors.

    my original gusseted spindles bent all to hell enough to where it was impossible to achieve proper alignment numbers..

    I kinda want them to reach out and be like "Everyone's fine, the trucks are fine, but we need all the additional support we can get in order to get out" so it gives me an excuse to go on a adventure :burnrubber:

    Got a Death Valley trip going for President's weekend so the trucks 90% ready and loaded up as we speak. I just need word as an excuse to bail early haha.

    Why not? Actually it'd just make it so it was two Death Valley trips in a row and I'm OK with that.

    @tetten

    So what are your plans? You just going to hang around and wait? Did you already plan on staying as long as possible in order to retrieve the truck?

    i was going to make a post about this earlier but bit my tongue. To me this looks like the spindle was not pre-heated before welding which is why it broke where it did, right at the base of the gusset where its going to be exposed to more heat and welding thus making the spindle itself brittle in that spot and more suseptable to a clean break as opposed to bending.
