Which one is better?

 

My winter tent is the BD Hilight.
I live outside Quincy, close to the UC Bezerkly Forestry Camp. I just snow shoed from home a short distance, can't do what I used too and started too late in the day. View is of Spanish Peak, the PCT goes by it. Only in the mid 20s the last few times I've been out. Was up at Bucks Lake a week ago. Retired as of last March, something to do.

I only bring beer in early season BP trips when I know there will be a patch of snow. Recall Lakes Basin a few years ago? Snow drifts on the road into the OHV CG the July 4 weekend.

That's awesome you can snowshoe from your house. Looks like you live in a cool spot. Congrats on your retirment too. I gotta get out a couple times this year...haven't gone out yet. Well, I've done some camping out of the truck but no backpacking yet.

Yeah, I only use my BD Hilight for winter or when it's high up in the eastern Sierra. It's got such a small footprint it's easy to dig a trench in the snow and put in the hole. Here's a pic on Mt Shasta in March last year in Hiddin Valley. We got blasted by wind all night long. The top of the tent is only about 6 inches above the trench. I got up to pea in the middle of the night and the wind had to be gusting to 50mph easy. I could barely stand up.
