When you clean it out some people have said they have adverse affects. I assume you have disconnected the battery and reset everything? Computer could be trying to relearn the change after cleaning. What cleaner did you use on the maf?

Neither have I I guess. I'm an electrician not a mechanic. Could I have screwed up that sensor? My check engine codes aren't related to this sensor are they ?

I had a code about a year ago. I only had one though. It was an evap system code. Don't remember the number. I just tightened the gas cap and cleared the code. Haven't seen it since. The evap system doesn't have a thing to do with what you were messing with. At least as far as I know. It's probably a gas cap that isn't sealing properly or you have a vacuum leak from bumping a hose on the evap system that you didn't notice when you did it. If worst comes to worst it could be one of the valves in the evap system and that's where I get lost because I don't know how the system works. All I know is that it never should have been installed to begin with. Just something else to go wrong that claims to "save the planet" and probably doesn't do anything.

If the gas cap fix doesn't work I'd check all the lines for the evap system for vacuum leaks first.

I doubt carb cleaner hurt anything but it is possible that it leaves a residue that MAF cleaner doesn't. I don't know. I'm not a chemical engineer. Carb cleaner and MAF cleaner could very well be the exact same thing since carb cleaner evaporates rather quickly as well. He can just go get some MAF cleaner and re-clean it. Also, you're not supposed to touch the MAF sensor. I guess they are like Halogen head light bulbs where the oil from your fingers can screw them up.

Besides. What could the MAF sensor have to do with the evap system which is only there to process gas fumes from the tank so they don't get into the atmosphere? Maybe it does but I don't see the connection between the two systems. I can't see how they could possibly be related although I could be wrong.

Maf and carb cleaner are different. Carb cleaner on a maf can cause a rough idle.

There are a bunch of posts on here about how carb cleaner kills MAF. Just throwing that out there before you completely rule it out.

You're gonna wanna check all the lines and VSVs associated with your charcoal filter. Bad air hoses, bad VSVs, and cracks in the charcoal filter itself can cause all of these codes. I know because it did on mine (I had a crack in one of my hoses).
