I've been looking at it this way - it's a long drive out there. It's slow and bumpy in spots. Weather would have added to that. So there's a good chunk of time just to get to the truck.

Next up is fixing it. An hour and a half sounds realistic, but things usually don't go smooth with these types of vehicles. So most likely it's taken longer then expected, and like they said they are prepared to stay a couple of days if needed to get it fixed.

Let's say they did get it all fixed up, they beat up from the drive and working on the thing and now it's dark and getting cold. Since they're prepared to stay then they might as well do just that.

Now, what if something didn't go to plan. Wrong tools, something stripped, can't bleed the brakes because the truck is locked, wheels have wheel locks on, etc. That's going to increase or stall what's going on.

It hasn't been 24 hours yet. These guys have everything they need on them to survive at least that long.

I've been texting Greg too. No response. I've been out with Greg, he's a big and smart boy.

I think informing the owner of, the truck ....before hand...would have been common courtesy.

They wouldnt have been able to complete the repair without starting up the truck to bleed the brakes

Technically, if you had the time (which they kinda do by the looks of it) you could gravity bleed the system good enough to work. Basically just open the bleeder valve and let gravity do it's thing for a bit.

But yes, all this is besides the point as they don't have the keys and most importantly the driver.

Like dtaco06 said, Death Valley is something unique and it literally does swallow you up as it's so vast.

They still have to get the hood open to top off the reservoir.

Putting a wheel back on it would get it home. Use e-brake to stop or gears

I would hope they wouldn't do that without knowing level in the reservoir. Air in the master cylinder causes a cluster fuck.

Popping the hood isn't too big of a deal - it's not as if you can only activate the latch by the cable... Screw driver through the grill and it's open.

    Everything TW members recommend
@tetten - they MAY not have brought along brake fluid. If you're going to a hotel in Bishop, maybe it would be a good idea to get some.

I doubt they're bleeding the brakes. I'm sure if they're at the truck they're focused on the repairs. They wouldn't risk damaging the truck by trying to pop the hood or move the truck. Bleeding the brakes and getting the truck down would be with OP
