What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I like the third gens too. Very luxurious and the interior and technology is nice. Definitely a lot more power compared to our first gens for sure.

 

I'll still take the 4.0l over the new motor.

 

Can someone help?! My truck seemed to start doing this thing where it starts and dies immediately. When I rev it during starts a little bit it seems to help. What could be causing this?

 

I wouldn't say I prefer it, just that it did better than the 3rd Gen. Id get a full size if i was towing a lot. The 3rd Gen power bands are so high that it's not ideal for towing. Like you said tho, you wouldn't be doing it every day, so it might not matter to you. The automatic transmission is annoying, so to do it again id go manual.

A guy on the 3rd Gen forums went through 2 sets of gears and had to get a new axle just trying to re-gear.

 

I used 4x low to maneuver in & out of steep, snowy driveway, praise God.

Well my dad finally sent me a picture of the new headlights (and PIAA bulbs) I got for his '99 4wd Taco for Christmas, I installed a switch for the new work lights I got for him as well, but he couldn't decide where he wanted to mount them, so I just went ahead and made the harness and everything so all he had to do was plug them in after he mounted them.
He finally got it all done, the work lights are on top of the bumper at the bottom of the grill.
My mom said they're blinding and he can see much better at night now, lol

got a link to the gears thread? i have seen a lot of people bitching about gear whine, but no pics or no inspections. if it was me i would just pull it out and see whats up. lol. and for me, auto is the only way, wife cant drive stick and i really dont want to go down that road again lol.

i also just realized that both the second gen and third gen have the same towing rating. hmm

 

but .5L difference and a supercharger avalible for the 4.0L.

But yea i mean the 3rd gens are almost the exact same truck. The frame is the same and suspension in the same. Cab is different and bed and motor and tranny.

That sucks, cleaning off the mess isn't gonna take 10 mins seems more like an hour to me.

 

Does anyone know how to disconnect this fuel line from this T fitting that goes to the 7th injector? It got chaffed and sliced what I believe is the high pressure fuel line, so it was spraying fuel out.

 

Undo the battery and then just be ready for there to be fuel in it and still under pressure at first.

 

I actualy got them from Advanced Auto Parts, I had massive discounts I needed to use.

Well I hadn't started it in about 2 days so the trucks just been sitting in the driveway. I'm just wondering how do I take if off from the t fitting? Do I pull it?

 

Can't you depressurize the system by pulling that fuse (green block) behind the lower dash panel, near the ignition, and cranking it over a few times until it dies?

 

you prolly could, but since it's spewing fuel, it's safest to remove any chance of accidental spark.

 

Once I globbed off the majority of it, it wasn't too bad. I had the whole axle swapped out and adjusted my c/o's in about 1 1/2 hours.
After that I hit around that area with degreaser and drove around in the rain, worked like a charm!

 

Made good time on that fix hombre. Lol, nice cleaning technique. When I lived in Seattle most of my vehicles were pretty clean underneath from the constant rain.
