TRD Off-Road vs. Pro. Thoughts? Anyone Regret Their Decision?

I have purchase many vehicles out of state and yes, you will need smog cert (even though truck is new) and weight cert. If you search "Out of state purchase" another user already started a thread on this for people who live in CA and purchase out of state; and all of them needed both certificates.

On the weight certificate is yes/no depending on the situation. The DMV definition you posted above reads:

• Trucks or pickups with an empty or unladen weight of 6,000 pounds or less, if the out–of–state certificate of title or registration indicates "empty, unladen, or shipping" weight, and the vehicle has not been modified to change the weight.

So when you purchase your truck in Oregon, they will not give you out-of-state cert or registration since you will be registering it in CA, hence, a weight cert is needed. That's why in my post above I stated in that if you paid your truck in full (no lein) you can use the MSO cert in lieu of the weight cert.

That makes sense. Plus, it's a nominal amount which I'd rather pay than going to the DMV twice lol

I will forever think the fake hood scoop is as gay as the ground effects some people put on little pretend street racers. But I respect the fact that many Taco owners love it so to each his own.

With no modifications, the Pro is 'better' than an Off-road. But as the above posters have indicated with a little dealing the price difference between the two is at least 5k and probably closer to 7. For half of that amount the Off-road can be made 'better' than the pro and for less than 10k the Off-road can be transformed into a complete beast.

Happiness that I drive an exclusive cement colored Pro that gardeners and pool boys don't drive = priceless

And that built up beast won't carry nearly the resale value. Costs more, worth more later. Simple economics.

 

Honestly, they are basically the same truck. The PRO comes with better suspension, yes, however the OR is just as capable doing everything the PRO can do.

I love my OR and as much as I wanted and could have had the PRO, I am so glad I decided against it.

 

No offense...it's the hood scoop that's gay not your truck. I think the Pro is an awesome vehicle and you are right to be proud to drive one. I prefer my flat hood because I think it offers better visibility but my never ending derision for the scoop is because it's fake. If it were an actual intake or even just ducted to provide cooling for something (anything!) then it would be acceptable.

No doubt in my mind a stock pro will have more resale value than a modded off-road. Aftermarket mods destroy resale value on every vehicle line I am familiar with. I am modding my truck for me and my use and don't really plan to sell it but if I did I have all the stock junk stored in my garage and would put it back on.

 

Agree 100% on hood scoop being horrible. I have two other cars with functional hood scoops thus to have a fake on my Pro bothers me but there was no other way to buy it

I bought an OR and not sport due to not wanting scoop

In order to get a pro I had to give up my moonroof from OR and my hatred of rice product in the scoop

 

I'm going to put a light bar in mine- bam, functional.

 

Driving in the desserts of so cal and came across this off road stuck to his rocker panels. Towed him out with my pro no problem.

Now if you had put your pro where the OR was stuck and you were able to drive out then the thread would have been answered. I bet you didn't do that did you. If your truck was in the same hole the OR was in he might have had to pull you out.

I'd go Pro - I bought an OR and NEVER wheeled it - felt like I made the wrong decision. If you plan on really wheeling it and need the OR options then go for it - mine was a mall crawler (wasn't the intent but that's how it worked out).

 

Off road all the way. I got the Blazing Blue color, premium JBL sound package, sunroof. The mods that I am making are mesh grill, TRD Pro skid plate, side steps and 30in light bar behind the bumper. When the tire wear out a 1 in lift a some off-road tires.

The suspension on the PRO is to dissipate heat on long desert runs. I may step up to Fox when the Bilstein shocks go out. Just my personal preference... the non functioning hood scoop on the Pro is "no Bueno".

Also my local dealer had a $5000 mark up for the package because it was "rare". SERIOUSLY????

I have an SR, and think all ya'll crazy.

Most people aren't willing to admit they regret their 35k + purchase. I wish I had an OR, I don't regret not getting one, but it wasn't worth the extra 10k+ for me.
