I really wanted to lease a 2017 but the more I test drive them the more I feel like I might want to keep it longer than three years. With the values on the Tacoma so high even if I wanted to get out of it in three years I think I would be OK or if a new body style came out that I would like I don't think I'll be regret purchasing. I just hate the extra $200 a month to shell out to purchase versus lease when I couldn't let that sit in the bank and made money

The one good thing about the lease is if it has issues at least you get to turn it in.

That's true. There has been a lot negativity about the 3rd gen tacos on this forum about the transmission and the low rpm power of the new 3.5L engine. I will agree the power is kind of weak at low RPM compared to the 4 banger Camry engine in my Scion tC I was driving for 3 years but it's a truck. We don't buy trucks to go drag racing on the speedway. Other than that I have been completely satisfied with my truck for the past 3 months I had it.

A lot of folks claim the 3rd gen Tacoma wasn't a full redesign since it's on the same on body frame as the second gen but all auto makers are doing this with their trucks. The new ford f150's are on the same frame as the previous generation. Look at the Jeep wranglers they have look almost identical for the past 15 years with the same design language.

With so much competition in the mid size truck market now with the gm twins, the ranger coming in two years, and the wrangler truck coming next year (I think the leaked images of the wrangler truck is hideous in my opinion). I doubt the 3rd gen Tacoma is going to be around for 10 years like the second gen but the 3rd gens are going to be around for at least 7 years since that is the minimum amount of time Toyota strings their trucks before refreshing them.

I'm glad I purchased mine instead of leasing due to the high residual value of these trucks. I am going to pay mine off in 3 years and if I am ready for another vehicle after 3 years at least I will have a lot of equity in this truck to put towards a new vehicle if I want to but I love my 3rd gen so much I plan on keeping it for at least 10 years and I probably won't be interested in the new ranger and defiantly not interested in the wrangler truck when it comes out.

But you will have a lot of equity in the truck 3 years out by financing it. A 2014 Tacoma TRD off road package with 45,000 miles has an average trade in value of $25,666 (range $24,125-26,715) according to kbb When they MSRP for $31-32k. Private party value is $28,160.
    https://www.kbb.com/toyota/tacoma-d...5531316|true|6390264|true&condition=excellent

$3-4K in deprecation if you sell it privately in three years is pretty low.

That's why I couldn't justify leasing this truck and couldn't justify buying one used when 3 year old models with 50k+ miles were still selling in the $28-29k range for 4WD TRD configurations. For 4 grand more I bought a brand new Tacoma with no miles and got the refreshed 3rd gen design.

Did you take a hit on the SR5 trading it that soon?

Had two dealers that agreed to the same price on the exact same optioned trucks, had to go back and forth several times before one of them played ball on my trade.

Just ordered a DCSB TRD off road 4x4 manual trans. Only added the tow package. Quoted $32,762 at my local stealership in San Diego.

    Thoughts?

Sounds like that is roughly $500 or $600 over invoice, that is probably a good deal in your region.

They gave me what was owed on it. They were really needing to sell some vehicles last weekend and made me a deal I couldn't pass up.

I shopped around 4-5 dealerships. Some wasted my precious time by lying and stated they had X amount of trucks in stock when they really didnt.

One dealership quoted me 33.5k drive out then tried to hide add ons to bump up the price to 36.5k plus ttl.

Finally I emailed a dealer in Fort Bend. Got my truck for 31.5 drive out with only 2 miles on the odometer, back in Oct 2016. Seller made his money by internet sales so we were both pleased.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2017 Off-road double cab 4x4 manual transmission. The package that I want is P&T without JBL.
The salesman I'm talking to is trying to tell me that if I get that package then I must also get the tonneau cover. I told him I do not want the tonneau cover.

Is that a legitimate requirement or is he just trying to add unnecessary accessories to my build?

I live in Baton Rouge Louisiana to get an idea of my region.

Go on Toyota.com and build the truck in your region. When l built mine with P&T Manual it only offered 2 color choices, QS and MGM.

I went to All-Star first but the guy didn't know anything about the truck and I was teaching things to him about the truck during the test drive.

It makes no sense to me as to why they do the trucks different for each region.
