I did a hot yoga class with weights at 5:45 a.m. This morning that kicked my ass. Plus yoga pants. :D But seriously I love doing it 2-3 times a week with my weight lifting. Helps flexibility and did I mention yoga pants

50W is pretty damn good, but yeah, I wouldn't use that power very often without a fan of sorts. The chassis looks pretty beefy, but 50W, you'd be amazed at how warm it can get!!!

@MostEpic Jim, some of this information may be of help to you as I just read an earlier post about you doing something similar, am I correct? :notsure: Just want to give you that heads-up if that is the case!:fistbump::cheers:

I would go with the mini then, in my humble opinion/suggestion. Even at 25W, that will "reach" pretty far out. Just the people with their handhelds won't be able to reach you from the same distance, of course, since their units will be pushing max 8W, if they have the tri-band 3x power selectable handhelds or about 5W if they have the typical 2-band units. AND, on top of it all, regarding the handhelds since I'm on that subject, the stock duckies (i.e. antennas) for the handhelds SUCK!!! BADLY!!! I can NEVER express it enough on changing those out to aftermarket antennas as you get much, MUCH better gain! I wouldn't necessarily get rid of the stock antennas for just in case purposes (i.e. just so you have a spare of sorts), but still would recommend using an aftermarket antenna similar to the Nagoya antenna.

Either way, even with the mini having a built-in fan and at 25W max power setting, I would use the low setting as much as possible until you need and/or feel that you need to go to the higher wattage out. BUT, with that said, the mini does have the fan, which will extremely help the unit cool down. BUT, also keep in mind of where you are going to put it?! The temp control area, at least in my truck, gets fairly warm when using the heater of the truck. I don't have to worry about it because of where my radio is sitting.

So, anyways, now regarding the unlocking of channels... I don't know if you do or do not have to go that route. I've had personal experiences with the handhelds that SOME of them you have to unlock the extended range of the 2m/70cm freq band range and some you do not?????????????????? I found this out the hard way when I let a fellow TW member borrow one of my radios when he went up to Big Bear only to find out that he could hear them, but could NOT talk to them??? I felt so bad about that because I didn't know about the unlocking bit ordeal? On the other hand, I DID want to do a radio check the night before, but he didn't want to... so, most likely, we would have caught the issue then?! I firmly believe in doing pre-TESTING of the radio comms before heading out on a trail and it only makes sense to do that simple check. In my humble opinion, everyone should do a roll call and have a fairly good idea of all involved in the group so that no one is left behind!!!

LOL!!! Sorry @ODNAREM Ron :D Good lord, I'm just now realizing I type aLOT!!! LMAO!!!:rofl::rofl: Obviously not a care in the world if anyone even READS the whole post??? :notsure: I just like typing apparently!!! LOL!!!
