I've flown with my dog twice on cross country flights about 10yrs ago. I think at the time it cost an extra $100 per flight. Make sure your kennel cage is airline approved and just big enough for you dog to stand up in it. Pad it well to make it as comfortable as possible. Keep in mind that if the tarmac temps are too hot they won't board your dog so if flying in the summer try for early morning or evening flights. Also get your vet to give you some tranquilizers, very stressful otherwise.

Get to airport early and find out where you need to drop off dog. Stay with them as long as possible with some exercise and potty break before you dope them up and put them in their cages. Then get to your gate and hopefully look out window and see your dog being loaded on to plane before you board.

Whether this is true or not I don't know, but a friend who was a pilot for Delta told me they have a thing called the dead dog switch. Guess they can turn on heat into baggage compartment and only do it if they have live animals on board. He said when boarding to let pilot know you have a dog in baggage.

Oh yeah and don't give your dog the tranquilizers too soon. I got to airport early dropped of his kennel cage and took him outside for final pee. Had about 45 mins to spare so gave him the meds and was sitting on a bench to kill the time. Got up to go back inside and he was laying there with all four legs splayed out and tongue hanging out. Had to carry a totally limp 60lb dog on my shoulder all the way back through the airport with a backpack and carry on. Not fun.

If I had to do it again I'd drive.

    No clue.

Some guy on TW earlier had a similar truck with a bent frame from a rear end collision, with 68k miles, and he paid $13k for it. Not sure what trim/configuration it was, but it'll hit the auction block. Would make a nice truck for someone who doesn't give a fuck, 57k miles isn't hardly broken in yet.

5k more than new price on my config.

I'd really prefer it to be normal and not be in this situation, but being as I am, it's gone very well. My first totaled vehicle, and it was not at all the nightmare that the internet suggested it would be.

Gotcha, I always wonder with these trucks. A 3rd gen 4runner member just rolled his 4runner on some black ice in Tahoe and he got 12k back for it with a $500 buy back option. Guess they offered him 7k for the truck and he had 5k in aftermarket coverage they tacked on. It's amazing what they pay out for Toyota's. Always wished my old 4runner would have gotten totaled so I could get the cash and buy it back to make a wheeling rig.

Worth mentioning, the payout before my mods were taken into consideration (and valued) was $24,331. So, $400 less than the truck brand new off the showroom floor.

The shell, lift, wheels, etc,. was all accounted for and that's what raised the total payout that high. Either way, amazing. Insurance was just over $3600 in that time period, so if the truck was stock, I'd have basically driven it for 4 years/57k miles for cost of gas and oil changes only.

    That's amazing.

For $500, it's worth parting out.

Yeah I told him I would buy it back if he didn't. I'd probably have to snuggle next to you on the coach if I did though.

in 2004 when insurance totaled out my '93 240sx after being rear-ended, I paid $138 to buy back. Sold the engine for $500. All the interior pieces, carpet, and other doodads went for a decent amount of money since practically everyone who buys a 240 goes out to drift it. practically everything was reusable. A full MT transfer was worth $500 too.
