Have been wanting to remove my flares and trim my fenders because I've been rubbing while fully stuffed on 285/75r/16. I'm lifted on icon's. I'm located in Riverside Ca and was hoping I could have someone possibly assist me during the process. Cutting into something that costs 30k+ makes me a little nervous.

Do you have pictures of where you're rubbing?

I don't right now. I'm out of town and don't have my truck with me. I'm rubbing right where the front bumper and front driver fender meet. Also down on the very bottom corner closest to the driver side door

The first cut is the hardest, but it's not rocket science. If anything I'd say trim a little at a time until you're satisfied with the clearance gained. I have a steel bumper so no rubbing up front, but as for the rear, I trimmed up to the first mounting bolt. This was an aggressive cut, but I have 295s and still rub when fully compressed. Daily driving it is a non issue and I can live with that.

I guess the thing I'm worried about is trimming the flares so I can put them back on after I trim them too

How much do you plan on trimming? If you plan on cutting a new radius into the flare, then I'd recommend removing it from the truck even though I have seen guys cut them while still mounted. But if you're just going to trim the fore and aft corners, you can do it while they are still mounted. That's how I did mine. Just turn the wheel out of the way so you have room to work.

Id try to avoid removing them if you don't have to. The mounting clips are notorious for breaking if you even look at them wrong. Replacements are cheap, but why go through the hassle?

I wanted to cut a whole new radius but don't like the look of the clip holes. I plan on trimming about 2.5" from the front and 2" from the back

If you're cutting that much, you'll most likely have to cut the fenders as well (sheet metal) because they will stick out almost as far. Take a look at a few builds where they have done it to give you an idea of the work involved. Several have done it and it can be intimidating, but once you make that first cut and get over it, it'll be like anything else.

I wouldn't trim your fenders for 33s .. just buy different offset wheels

Edit: the bottom pic you'll usually have to trim that part a bit, the others can be fixed with different wheels

I shouldnt have to do that with my method double standards. Plus I don't want to spend that $$$ again for a new set. I plan on getting 35's in the future but for now the rubbing is killing me :frusty:

Do what ghost ship said. Start cutting little by little. Here are some pics of the driver side. I trimmed little by little so that way you don't regret cutting too much. I also have a front steel bumper so no rubbing up front.

Easy fix. Just have to trim a little bit of the plastic.

It also looks like you already did the cab mount chop.

I did. I need to hammer down the pinch weld, trim the fenders, remove the flares. I might need to chop it even more for 35's in the future
