Trying to sell my clean '04 XtraCab 5spd.. turns out you have to have 50 posts in order to post in buy/sell? When did that happen?

Just because I'm not posting all the time doesn't mean I haven't spent a significant amount of time on this forum over the years.

I understand the "contributor" aspect of forums but if I have nothing to contribute what the hell am I supposed to be posting? Maybe hop on the beer thread and talk about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the basis of this site?

Jump in the home improvement thread and take some pics of my bathroom remodel? I don't get it at all and I'm so disappointed in TW right now. I guess I'll have to find other means of selling my truck even though I'm sure there are members on here that would be interested.

Here's to my 3rd post. Cheers.

We finally instituted that rule in Sept of last year after several incidents involving new members and trying to scam the members here

I completely understand the need for such a rule but I'm not the person that hops in threads and posts a bunch. I use the forum for information and it has been an awesome tool for me. If I thought I could contribute, I would post but I'm not wanting to post, just to post. Just frustrating because I had every intention of using TW to sell my truck and find an owner that will appreciate it.

And let's not forget to mention your account must be at least 30 days old.

If this part is in the b/s/t forum rules, then I missed it.

Same here. I have a bunch of first gen parts I want to sell but I'm short of 50 posts. Lol. Slowly but surely I'll get there!

This is a common rule on MANY forums for the exact reason JimBeam mentioned, scammers.

There are a ton of lowlifes out there who will join an enthusiast forum for the sole purpose of trying to rip someone off by selling junk, or promising to sell junk and then taking the money and disappearing.

50 posts is actually quite lenient. Many have a 100 post minimum.

You can get there quickly enough just conversing with others on the site.

Just don't pad your count with a bunch of "LOL" or "Nice Truck" posts.

Mods will usually spot that and "adjust" your post count :D

so if someone jumps in and says "wow, nice truck!" 50 times they can sell, but if you use the site for learning/browsing, you can't sell squat? Count this as my 3rd post. Only 47 more to qualify. All good.

There are options if you don't like the rules. This is a privately owned board, and I believe the owner and the mods do a great job of trying to keep it helpful to the community. Sure not every rule will fit every person or every case, but why in the heck has this society gotten to the point where people have to bitch every time they don't get their way. Or think that they should have instant access and rights to everything they want the same as others who maybe have more experience or have contributed more. If you want to sell something and you don't meet the rules here then go to Craigslist or eBay.

I'm okay with the rules. I have a Blue Sea unit I'm trying to sell. I have the minimum post prerequisite covered, but I also have to wait until my account is 30 days old. I'm just eager to give back to the TW community as my way of saying thank you for providing so much information and insight (as well as new and interesting ways to separate me from my money). I'd rather give a good deal to someone here than CL or eBay. Just 12 days to go.

After visiting other forums, I am so thankful for TW's lack of advertising. That in itself is worth any mild inconvenience the forum rules impose.

@oregonreign , you've been a member since 14' I can understand the frustration. But if you really have been reading and learning since then you've picked up some significant knowledge. Poke around the 1st gen section and look for threads with low posts, an OP with a question that may have not been answered or needs a 2nd opinion. It would be very easy to go into the 2nd or 3rd gen section because there is a bountiful amount of simple questions like "how much lift for 33 inch tires" "biggest tire no lift?" there's probably 5 a day haha.

You can contribute without posting new threads

Reading and not joining the discussion is the exact definition of not contributing

Some methods are incredibly aggravating. Like the ones that pop up over photos and you have to manually close them.
