I suppose that is a good point. I could look into just upgrading the IFS some.
    Thanks for the imput guys.

If you want diamonds ur gonna pay! I ordered a rear for my 85 because I'm linking it and didn't like the thinness of the ifs axle I have and I want to keep it toyota so I went with the diamond with lc 9.5 chunk and ARB. Cost me 5300.00

I paid around $7K for my front diamond. That's complete with shipping tho.

Based on what you described, this is the best course of action.

A SAS is really more for when people start getting into hard core wheeling, including rock crawling. It's just too big of a modification - and expensive - for just recreational wheeling and camping. IFS works well for that.

    @MYT4CO and @bullaculla,

Thanks guys for posting the reality of it all. Finally, somebody decided to be honest about what it takes to keep it "all toyota parts" with custom axles.

Those diamond axles are super bad ass, but they ain't no joke on the wallet. Should be eye opening for those who think they can do a SAS with links and diamond axles front/rear for 5 grand total

There is a guy here in Hawaii that changed his mind, and is selling complete, but unbuilt, front and rear diamond axles for under $7K.

Just wondering what all you SAS guys are running for rear axles?? 60, 14b? Custom builds?

Trying not to make this truck much heavier and keep my ground clearance. I primarily snow wheel on 39.5's

I have a 14 bolt. A 60 would be smarter only because you can get lower gears for it. 5.38 is as lot as you can go for the 14bolt and they don't make an OX Locker for it, which would be my perfered locker

Cutom HP 9s in Ruff stuff housings would probably be the best but most expensive choice

I'm probably gonna cheap out on the rear, and find a full float FJ80 axle with disc brakes. Still has tone ring, so speedo will work. But RST did a write up on how to take the speed off the T case.
Not sure what I'll do yet. Too much other shit to think about first.

I converted my speedo to take off of the worm gear in my fj case. It's stupid simple. I recommend it. It can also be done with the electronic tcase.

My truck is a 6 speed. I took the factory sensor out of my Tcase and put it in the Auto FJ case. I assume this will keep my speedo working

Not sure what I'll do when I swap in an Atlas...

I have the speedo gear to put ing my transfer case from RST. I haven't done it yet but it sounds like its a pretty easy install. Besides Ill ditch the ABS and speed sensors at the wheels when I do the SAS

Atlas has a way to retain that sensor. The fj cruiser guys that swap in the atlas have it done. I'm doing an atlas too later on.

TRD super charger, URD fuel mods and 2.1 super grip pully, Headers, 2.5" glass pack, Dana 60 front 4 linked, 14bolt rears on chev 63's, 5.38 gears, ARB locker in the front, PSC full hydraulic steering, 18" SAW 2.5" triple rate coils overs, FOA 2.5 air bumps, B&M launch controls, B&M trans cooler, 4 alpine 6X8 type R's amped, Red led rock lights, CBI front and rear bumpers (my design) CBI sliders, 4 riggid dualys front 2 in the rear, custom track bar, ARB snorkle, warn VR8000 winch, Viair 480c twin compressers..
There is only one best option and it's not a 9". It's the 14 bolt. While not the lightest choice if you install a shave kit on it it has the best strength and ground clearance. Then you can do the disc brake conversion to save weight. My boss has the 9" in his Jeep running 37's I'm on 42's guess which one of us hasn't blown up a rear diff.
