I have a boatload of carpentry and woodworking tools. I'm slowly starting to build up my mechanics tool collection.

 

Geez. I'm over here borrowing all my tools... first time home buyer problems

 

Cleared 4" of snow this morning. Expecting 6-10 more by late afternoon.
I'm trying to get a head start on the snow clearing before I go to work. There's probably gonna be a shitload of this white stuff when I get home.
Not to mention the mountain of snow at the end of the driveway that the snowplows will pile on.

Every house I've acquired were fixer uppers, hence the many woodworking/carpentry tools.

 

You at least had this stuff in your truck. I gotta get me some emergency tools. That day made me realize shit can hit the fan pretty quick and if your not ready, it can be worse. Because of the cap I can't fit a truck tool box like yours, so will need to get me something smaller.

Over a foot of snow over 6 hours this morning.

On my way to work I stopped to pull a Camry out of a ditch and towed it 1/2 mile. Damn thing was low. Front air dam was 4" from the ground and it was plowing snow until it couldn't push any further. Didn't help that the tires were bald and they were almost out of fuel.

I pulled out two shovels from my rig and made them dig out the front until I could get to the front recovery point which was 3" from the ground, under the engine bay belly.



Doubling the snatch strap reduced its stretch/kinetic capacity by about half, which was my goal, because I wanted to pull and tow, rather than snatch.

 

Snow plow drivers tip for you.Don't clear the end of the driveway,leave a snowblowers pass at the end>When the plow truck comes by it doesn't have anywhere to go so he continues on by,driveway opening gives the snow somewhere to dump.
I usually only tell elderly people this cause i don't like watching them shovel driveway multiple times just to never leave the house.The rest of the able bodied people i love doing it to them as i drive by with a smile. Its a snow plow not a shovel.I cant pick it up i can only push it

 

Yup. Good tip. That's exactly what I did.
Snowstorm was over, street plowing was pretty much done. It was late afternoon and I had to hustle to clear that plowed snow mountain at the end of driveway before my wife comes barreling through the snow pile on her way home from work.

I'm glad I cleared everything yesterday. Today, everything is blocks and sheets of ice everywhere.

@stairgod - Mitch, I need to pull the rubber bushings from the front eyes of my Dakar leaf pack and replace with Poly Bushings similar to this. Will anything in your Ball Joint Puller kit work?

 

I am sure one of the adapters in that kit is the right size. If not a piece of pipe cut down should work. Never realized the Dakars had a rubber bushing in the front.

 

Never bothered looking. Just slapped em in.

 

Minor changes to my Dakar's

Dakars came stock with rubber bushings in the forward eye and no bushings in the aft eye. When I did the initial install last year, I installed aftermarket poly bushings in the aft main leaf, but kept the preinstalled rubber bushings.
Fast forward to today. I removed the rubber bushings and installed poly bushings.
I used this awesome tool. Much thanks to @stairgod for letting me borrow it.


I did some measuring and also will re-torque all the pivot points on the rear suspension.

I also added back the Dakar overload leaf. A few weeks ago a loaded up the truck with concrete blocks and the leaf pack went negative arch. Hopefully this overload spring will help. And I gained about a half inch more rear lift. Rake is back to where I like it.

Glad it worked for you Lloyd! One thing that I added in that thread that was missed by a few people that have done the upgrade is that I lowered the torque values to the associated bolts on the leaf pack and shackle. I found that my shackles (non-flip) were binding using the OEM torque values. Essentially limiting range of motion of the leaf pack as a whole. Once I did this install, I greased all 3 bushings on each side (one in each spring eye and the third in the shackle to the frame) and set everything to a lower torque (estimated by what felt "right") and used blue loctite so everything would stay put. The rear is much happier on the street and off-road and soaks up bumps easier now. Hope this helps you.
