I know a guy who went that route. Next thing I knew? He was cutting his truck and rockn' boney 35's.

My chart is tires (not necesarily size, rahter something that can be aired down and handle rocks) > sliders > lift and or skids > lockers

If you guys didn't go ham modding before actually doing some greens they would be much more enjoyable and then you can learn and move up as you go or need to. Going full ham modding, then wheeling the truck for the first time is a huge waste in learning experience and enjoyment IMO.

I did the equivalent to greens when I was 17 in a 2wd fullsize Chevy. Then went on to do crazy shit with my CJ.
Greens would have been boring to me if my truck was stock.

I went fairly ham and have yet to wheel. Doesn't mean the first experience will be any better or worse.

But I do agree with @cynicalrider. Wheel some greens first with a stock truck. See if you like it, and learn. Then mod as your heart and budget desires. Seems like a waste of money and time to drive around in the woods. But it is fun as hell.

I'm more or less referring to @HolyHandGrenade or others who are really new to wheeling all together. I mean Tim was regeared, skidded, sliders, bumpers and front and rear lockers for his first time at Rausch. He missed out on the gradual progression that let's you really enjoy some of the now "easier" trails for him you know? Idk maybe that's just because it's the route I went so I'm partial to enjoying things without needing to drop a fuck ton of dough off the bat.

I don't know about that. I went six times last year and had a blast every time. Going to Moab in the fall.

But, I don't seem to ever do anything a little. AND I enjoy the modding itself. That's where this started for me. I like to tinker. So, even though I said I wasn't going to, I started modding my brand new truck almost immediately. Then, it got to the point where I figured I might as well USE the mods I'd done.

Also, you know as well as anyone else, no one wants to stick to greens after a couple of trails. If you have the means why not be prepared off the bat?

I mean it's a pretty proven formula what you're going to need on a Taco to do a certain type of wheeling.

Now get your shit back together, so now that I'm not scared anymore, we can do some wheeling

Ha! We were just brought up that way man. It's been ingrained in our brains since preschool. When you're groomed in public school to think that you're going to college and when you graduate you'll make 6 figures and thats the big picture educators paint for our fragile minds what does society expect. We expect everything now!

Ha! That was tongue in cheek. But it is kinda true. That's why kids are living with their parents until they're 30. Don't want to move out until their standard of living won't drop...

I know and I'm not hating on you by any means, but I feel like you would have enjoyed checking out some of those greens as you progressed you know? Not to mention just learning what it's like to wheel with open diffs, let alone wheeling with just a rear locker. As nice as it would be to have a fully modded rig thats good to go off the bat, I felt like I was able to learn my rig's capabilities as I increased my driver skill in a nice gradual curve. I mean now you need blues and blacks to even challenge you, and eventually they will get old.

And don't worry, the truck will def be fixed in the next few months, need to work out the bugs for Moab too.

I've only been to Rausch once but I've been wheeling and offroading for over 10 years with very less capable rigs. So upgrading my 16 was an awesome experience to have a capable rig.

Yeah, I hear that. If I'd started out looking to wheel, other than looking to just be in the garage tinkering, it probably would've gone differently.

For me, the mods just kinda snowballed. Like every other vehicle I've ever owned... lol

Before this, I had an 09' JCW Mini that I also bought new. It didn't take too long before I had a bunch of bolt ons, Meth injection, tune with bits from the Mini racing team, etc...

I know I'm sick. What can I say?

Hey man as long as you have the funds to support your disease, I say go for it! I'm jelly haha I guess my point in all this is that the massive costly mods aren't needed to have fun at Rausch or wheeling. You can go stock, learn what you like and go from there.
