Tried installing rear king shocks on my 08 with all-pro standard leaf springs but the shock is hitting the back of the lower mount and causing it to not line up. The instructions say I may need to widen the mount but that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Its hitting the back of the shock mount here...

Causing the bolt holes to not line up....

This is with the shock pulled back to get a better view of what it is hitting. You can see where the dirt has been rubbed off...

Did I receive the wrong shocks? I checked the tags and they are marked for 05+ tacoma but something is wrong here. Has anyone else had this issue?

I encountered this issue with OME shocks on my 2015. Slightly different as the OME is not an inverted design like the Kings are, but the solution, according to the folks I spoke with at OME, is to grind away enough of the lip to clear the shock eyelet. Unfortunate solution but it is what it is. I ended up with Icon shocks that fit in there without grinding though you can see a witness mark on the eylet where it contacts that lip under compression.

Damn, I really don't want to put a notch in the mount and mess with the structural strength of the mount. I can't believe that is an acceptable method for replacement shocks. Guess I need to contact king and see what they have to say

They are installed correctly. It is impossible to install these upside down as they have completely different mounting methods on top and bottom

    Crap.

Can you get a better pic with the shock pulled away so we can see more of where the contact area is and if it can be ground down without too much difficulty or compromise to the mount structure? I pic from head on with the shock rod out of the way would help too.

What is necessary for some of the OME trimming is really minimal and not in a critical area. It is just shaving down the outer radius of the ears a bit. And it is easy.

This issues is more concerning because it looks difficult to access and deeper into the mount structure.

unfortunately that's the only other picture I have right now and won't be able to get anymore until I'm off work. But this does seem like an area that should not be cut or ground down.

Maybe instead of grinding away at the truck mount, grind at the shock mount. That way it isn't permanent.

Understood. But please try to take more possibly this weekend if you can. That isn't the axle, is it?

Edit: nevermind, clearly it is not, looking at other pics above. Whew.

This was my first thought, not only at the low point where it is contacting, but once that is solved, it looks the "OME conflict" would come into play next on the ears and prevent them from coming down enough to align with the bolt holes. Shame to do this on bran new shiny Kings, but at least it will never be visible and it is very beefy aluminum.

It doesn't look like it would need much material removed to do the job either

Would really prefer to not grind away at anything, especially new $800 shocks. I've sent an e-mail to king and will see what they have to say. Wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and it doesn't seem like it so I'm hoping I just received the wrong shock or something of that nature.

    Agreed
it seems it has gone either way with the OMEs, too. Might even depend on the truck model and type of OEM axle/suspension setup, but I've not been able to discern any consistent pattern there when we were looking at the OME issue.

I wouldn't grind or even beat them into submission (position). Have you tried installing them bottom side first then rotating upward? Or spin them 180 degrees? Perhaps the bottom shock mount is proprietary?

I haven't tried installing bottom first and rotating up. Will have to try that tonight.

Cannot rotate them 180 degrees due to the external resi's. although I did try swapping the passenger and driver side shocks but ran into the same issue.

I didn't see that you did, but have you tried calling KING. It's maybe an easy fix, like they installed the wrong lower mount by accident and just need to get you the correct one. They just screw on and off, so this could be changed. I will say they are not fun to change as they use thread locker when installed.

Got in contact with DSM, they think it may be my housing and pinion angle has changed causing the angle on the lower mount to change. Pretty sure this is the problem since the housing did move during the leaf spring install.

Great customer service from DSM, they've been helpful and in contact with me through out the whole process from ordering, shipping, and install.

On a side note does anyone who has all-pro standard leafs have any pictures of them installed? want to make sure those aren't whats causing the change in angle.
