I am seriously considering trading my 2012 DCSB for a 2015 DCLB. I rarely feel like the 5' box is too short for my needs. I don't haul that much and I like the tight turning radius. My questions is....... Is there a noticeable difference in the driving and handling characteristics between the 2? Does that extra 13" of length make that much difference?

I enjoy the occasional offroad adventure, but I will never rock crawl in this thing (If I can help it. ;)) It will be used as a daily driver with some beach use. Will I regret buying the long bed? Is it significantly harder to park and drive?

I'm just trying to make an informed decision. Thanks for your time!

The bigger the better is what they say....... Only if they made a DCLB 6 Speed Manual......

Have either of you gentlemen had a short bed in the past?

When 3rd Gen shopping I extensively drove both back to back and there is for sure a difference in turning radius and maneuverability. If you're in a situation where you do a lot of city parking, it'd be a noticeable change, otherwise it's not that big of a deal. I ended up with the short bed since it fit in the garage and I dont think I'll miss the extra length. Have already used the short bed to haul 8-10 ft lumber with 0 issues and can't see myself ever carrying anything longer.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking the same thing.......... Usually if it's to big for the short bed, its to big for the long bed as well. Thankfully, I don't live anywhere near a city!!

For me, it must be a long bed, so I would have to have the access cab for the shorter wheel base, but double cab was also a necessity.

I off-road a lot. Compared to the jeeps and 4 runners I go out with, I have a little harder time in really tight areas, but have never been unable to go somewhere.

For parking in the city, I've personally never had a problem maneuvering, but obviously the shorter the better.

It sounds to me that a short box is working well for you though. If you're not sleeping in the back or actually carrying gear around, then why bother?

I drove by J&Bs yesterday and saw you added a roof rack to your truck, looking good brotha!

I don't have much to offer on SBvsLB, but I think LBs look awkward untill they are lifted with larger tires. I'm assuming you would transfer all your parts over if you did switch?

    Agreed

LB looks perfectly proportionate on a double cab.

SB with 4 door double cab, looks horrendous (I know, I have two of them). They don't look as bad as a Tundra king crew cab with short bed. Those look like fat sumo wrestlers/hippos on the front with tiny chicken legs on the rear.

LB looks best, LB works best.

I went from a long bed to a short bed.
I don't haul things often, but when I do I really miss my long bed.

I do think the LBs look better than SBs when lifted, but I have no use for the extra bed space and being a bit more maneuverable when I head to DC every few weeks is nice.

And LBs have to go through Weight and Inspection stations.

Correct. Huge pain in the ass. But not having 4wd is always in the back of my mind. My prerunner has been capable enough, but.......i wish i would have not cheaped out 5 years ago. One thing that worries me about the 2015 is the rearview mirror. :)

Hmmmm... wonder if they will let me swap that out too.
