I have the same complaint, don't really care for Double Cabs but ordered one anyways as it was the only way I could get a Manual Off Road.

This is EXACTLY why I ditched the Dakota for a Tacoma. Good to know. Just got an email from the dealer today... they've given me an unsolicited offer of $15,700 for my 2011 SR5... I'm going on Friday to see if this is a gimmick. If not, I'm going for a 2017 MT.

I have a 6x12 H&H trailer that I tow around often. I also do a lot of interstate driving. I am also one of those weirdos that enjoy manual transmissions.

I learned to drive stick in a 1965 Chevy C-10 with 4 on the floor... going into 3rd was like doing the sit & reach in gym class.

My first manual was a '97 tacoma regular cab 5 speed. Then a 2012 civic Si. Now back in a '16 Tacoma. Manual Transmission will always be my go to.

I sometimes think about getting an automatic until I drive one and wonder why I have such foolish thoughts! Blasphemy. Always manual until my knees are done.

yeah thanks man. its depressing because i know i thought about the manual when i picked mine up but it didnt have the long bed. now that i look back i should have went short bed and got the manual.

i really do think i would like this truck a lot if it was in the manual trim. other than that im sitting here with a calendar marking off the days until i can get rid of it.
and yeah money is money. i dont feel right giving away 3500 bucks just because a design is inferior. and our local dealership here is a pain in the ass so i refuse to let them make a buck on my situation.

When I test drove my exact truck in auto it was awful. Felt so sluggish and unresponsive and like I had no control of it. It took a few months for them to order mine but it was damn sure worth the wait. What really bugs me is when a guy will say: "i had to get a auto because my wife cant drive stick". Bollocks! It takes about and hour for a learner to get the basics. My daughter has been driving my truck since I got it when she was 13yo. We have driving practice every week so she'll know it and will never be bound by a transmission when she goes out into the world.

Nice. Just started teaching the wife myself. She did okay, and signed off on 6MT purchase.

I wanted a long bed, so i had to go with Automatic. I think the engine is powerful enough, but is geared too low and makes the package feel weak.
There's a new update for the auto tranny, supposed to help, but I still think manual is the only way to avoid the issue.

My biggest problem is that I pull a 6x12 utility trailer. My 2011 AT gets along fine in 4th, but 5th is a tad too high. With the ratios on the new AT, I will gain nothing by getting another AT. Going tomorrow to look at trading in the 2011.
