I always wonder with these... Did they forget to put the parking break on?

At my old work a young kid who had a Passat forgot to do that and the parking lot had a slight slope and... whoopsie, the car rolled into the wall across from his parking spot and messed up the back pretty good.
Luckily nobody was parked back there or then he would have had real fun time dealing with insurance.

So that begs the question: if no parking break, just roll the car into a spot and try to chock the wheels? :notsure:

Not with how the front tires are positioned. If he rolled straight back (like he probably would have), he would have just gone straight into the pillar, no?

If there's no break in the parking brake, then just use it as normal.

If however your parking brake suffers some sort of break, then yes it would be wise to chock a wheel with a brick or a rock until you can get that break in the parking brake repaired. You wouldn't want the broken brake to be the cause of breaking something. :D

I am just impressed when I see it referred to as a Parking brake and not an Emergency brake.

    Yeah, whats up with that?
My '15 Subaru has an electronically controlled switch. On/Off.
We all know the Tacoma has a foot lever that ratchets. How could you use that in an emergency WITHOUT LOCKING UP THE BRAKES?

Engineering changed by the bean counters again???

We don't need no stinkin' brakes.

I've never had a parking brake strong enough to lock the wheels at speed. Even when properly adjusted. Are you sure that's what would happen?

Anyway, I prefer the hand-operated lever design in my Tacoma. You could actually modulate it if you needed to, such as slowing without the brake lights coming on if you should ever have need to do that.
